What kind of Mileage should I expect driving in hot weather?
Laurel replied to ThatAutGuy's topic in Fuel Mileage
Hi Mike. I can't answer your questions because it won't be 80 F here until July or August LOL, but I believe that I read that the AC shouldn't affect your mpg. We have had our C-Max for nearly three months and we have gotten anywhere from 4.2 L per 100 kilometers to a pretty steady 5.7 L. I notice that when we have 11 C days my mileage improves significantly and meets and beats EPA standards for the C-Max. We notice that our car goes into EV much faster now then when we first bought it. We have 2000 kilometers on it. Temps right now are about 5-8 C daily. Mild and rainy. Lucky you to have 80 F weather! Enjoy your car. -

Ford Tech Response to Clock and Calendar Problems
Laurel replied to Generalbeluga's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
My husband did the same as Darrell in week one of us getting the car nearly 3 months ago i.e. syncing with GPS and no problems since. -
That is wonderful news Roggie! I will be looking forward to a picture and your impressions.

Oh psshaw! Dumbing down is a plague in our society. I do appreciate learning your perspective as mine may not be in sync with the majority.

I have high expectations on any service I buy. I would expect the dealership to be media savy and to be a step ahead of their customers by getting and staying informed. When they don't keep up with what the public is saying about their products, I think this is an example of a poor dealership. When we bought, we had more information about the C-Max than the dealership. Today when we attempted to chat about mileage, battery issues etc, they were disinterested. It was very obvious that they did not know about any mileage issues with the C-Max I would expect a good manager of a dealership to have staff meetings to discuss trends, media stories, and have seminars for employees about each of their products. Heaven knows when you walk in you see half a dozen salesmen standing around looking bored. A good manager would assign salesman to various models to gain expertise in that car's characteristics. A good manager motivates staff to become informed. Ford products have forums going on all their models and a manager should be assigning staff to keep tabs on these forums. I left today thinking that business was poor, and I would guess the apathy and waiting to be spoon fed via bulletins is half the problem. I want a keen motivated knowledgeable dealership---not a thumb up their butts dealership. I want the salesperson who can respond "yes, I have read about the battery failures, but we have not experienced that here and in my opinion this is an anomaly". Same as I want an ER nurse to say "chew this aspirin" when I clutch my chest and say I have chest pain. Be on top of what is happening in your area of expertise and what the fix might be.

SEL owners, check your FOB
Laurel replied to Laurel's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
I must say our FOBs seemed pretty light --now I know why LOL. Maybe their prediction of getting them in a week will be correct. -
I think this forum is really valuable. Today when we were into our dealership to order our missing mechanical keys for our FOB's, I mentioned all the dead battery issues and the "stop safely now" situations and I got a big blank stare from the salesman. Something tells me that information about these issues isn't being freely communicated. So we need to band to together and make sure that Ford is informed of our issues.

We were just at our dealership (to order the missing mechanical keys for our FOB's) and there was an Ice Storm electric Fusion and it looked gorgeous under the bright lights. The lower mainland of British Columbia doesn't get much winter sunshine. Even my husband commented on how pretty the Ice Storm looked under the lights.

Good info. Liz. Thanks for posting your experience.

I think from those comments we can expect that Ford will not get into trouble over the C-Max figures, but the stickers might get modified to include a statement about real world fuel economy varying due to various factors.

After reading in another thread about how to get into your car if you have a dead battery, I checked our FOB's to look for the mechanical key blades that are supposed to be inside the FOB. Ours were missing in the two that we have. We have a SEL so you need to squeeze on each side of your FOB and the Ford insignia pops off. Page 57 of the owner's manual shows that the SEL has type 1 FOB. I left a phone message for our salesman saying our mechanical keys are missing. We went out and he left a phone message saying that the key slides out at the top. No, not true with type 1. We drove to the dealership and they queried whether we had lost them, but then in the next breath said something to the effect this happened before. So it took a half hour of them fiddling around--going out to check the car in case they were in the glove box (we already had checked there). Then they said they would order them and it would take about a week. In the real world that likely means a month. So my advice is that everyone should check for the mechanical keys as we are hooped if we have a dead battery without them.

Recreational Towing (behind a motor home)

Not good at all Zhack! I am starting a new thread about this issue. -

I just found something on page 57, but when I open our fob (type 1) there is no key blade in there! Checked both fobs and no key blades. -

Is there anything in the owner's manual saying this, or with a picture? I can't find it and would like to visualize how to do it just in case. -
Tip is Canadian and is a very good car--very polite and reserved LOL. I wonder if some of the dead battery issues and "stop safely now" are software issues?

Hi Mikeycats we have had our Ice Storm SEL for coming up to 3 months Love the car --no problems (knocking on wood so I don't hex her). I am a little on the fence with the Ice Storm. It is lovely and elegant and subtle, but we live in a rainy grey area with not many sunny days in the winter and I find the Ice Storm looks drab. One thing that I have noticed is that I have never received a compliment on the my car from friends or neighbours or strangers. It is not a colour that pops so it tends to really blend into the background. Likely I would get it again, but be aware that it is very subtle and quiet. We ordered ours without having seen the colour on a car. When we picked it up, it was in the showroom and looked spectacular with the colour changing from pale green to pale blue/grey. I would say if you are in a climate with lots of sun it would be great.

I probably love the nav and MFT because I only do simple things, and don't have high expectations. I use the voice commands for almost everything and it works like a charm e.g. "call home, climate for all fan and temperature adjustments, destinations by address, music requests. I don't do any complicated things with the phone--just calling home and sometimes a friend. The only annoying thing I have run into is sometimes she doesn't recognize the pronunciation of a word. Just curious Val as to what you use it for that doesn't work?
-
I burst out laughing and thought of Valraider and Jus-A-CMax when I read this review. The guy LOVES the C-Max and the nav system! Obviously there are gremlins in some of the MFT systems, but I gotta say we love ours too. http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/2013-c-max-hybrid-drives-better-hybrid-article-1.1257941 Before I say a word – and I have many - about Ford’s all-new C-Max Hybrid, I’d like to make a public request for manufacturers of auto navigation systems all over the world to scrutinize the C-Max’s easy-to-figure out, easy-to-program, easy-to-cancel and intelligently designed nav system and imitate it as well as comedian . There is a right way and a wrong way to design a nav system for usability and quick operation, and the C-Max system knocks it out of the park. "

You have an excellent optimistic attitude jld. I hope you and Cassidy get the problems fixed asap. Did you happen to mention to them about Cassidy's situation and how they didn't want him to drive it at all due to danger if he got into a wreck?
-
Mbedit when I saw your post under this thread, I thought "oh no, his new car has a dead battery". Glad all is going well with your C-Max!

Anyone noticed a problem starting in Reverse?
Laurel replied to CNCGeek's topic in General Discussion
Viking are you 100% sure your car has been in ready to drive mode? We had two incidents and we were in accessory mode instead of ready to drive--so with us it was new hybrid driver error. It can be darned hard to tell if you are new to the game and not watching the dash info carefully. -
Ours is where yours is Valkraider and I think it looks good there. That must be Sky showing off her fog lights eh? We've had fog the last couple of days--thus we are heading to the Mayan Riviera is a couple of weeks to escape the gloom. We had hotel reservations down in Cannon Beach, but changed our minds as we need some guaranteed sun.

Thanks for the positive words Cassidy.

Gee Cassidy this is all sounding dreadful! I am losing confidence in Ford and the C-Max. After all that has been reported on this forum concerning batteries and electrical issues, I would feel much better if Ford did a recall and checked over all of our cars. I would be hard pressed to recommend one to a friend at this time even though we haven't had any trouble personally and I love my car. Just started to get scared that it will leave me in the lurch somewhere. Minimally Ford has to start talking to us about what is going on as they most certainly have employees reading this forum who know about the issues that are happening.
