Shaners I wonder if she would like an Amish bicycle for Christmas LOL.
-
Scooter my fingers are crossed for you. My sales person may email me tomorrow with an update--they are kind of slow there with this sort of request. We celebrate Thanksgiving about an month earlier than you do in the States. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your feast and your family. All of our radio ads are trying to discourage Canadians from driving into the States to shop on Black Friday i.e. trying to keep the money at home. I live about 3 miles from the US Border and I guarantee you there will be 3 hour long lineups on Friday--no one wants to miss a bargain.

ctford do you have any updates about what is wrong with your car?

Anyone noticed a problem starting in Reverse?
Laurel replied to CNCGeek's topic in General Discussion
I wonder if you have discovered the answer to this issue? Just waiting a few seconds to allow the car to "think" so to speak. A bit like when using a computer where you have to wait for a command to register before you start repeating the command too quickly and wind up buggering things up. -
RMS13 that seems like fast service i.e built Nov.15th and getting it Dec.1st. You must be getting excited. Mine was built November 8th. One would think I live in Siberia instead of a major metropolitan city in the western Canada.
-
Scooter it sounds like it could happen on Dec.3rd. That is the same date that cyberdman gave me on my last update. Dealership said Nov.26th about 3 weeks ago and they haven't responded to my email for an update so far. So maybe we will be getting our cars the same day! The time is dragging. Fingers crossed that we don't have any battery issues.

Green Car Reports C-Max not living up to EPA figures
Laurel replied to Laurel's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I have been thinking about the varying mileage that new C-Max owners are attaining. I think when the engineers of the C-Max say that perhaps the extra power in the C-Max is encouraging heavy feet--that they are correct. I am old enough to have observed mega changes in driving habits over the past 20 years. The majority of drivers are driving mechanically and are doing exactly what other drivers are doing i.e. speeding to keep up with traffic flow, quick starts at traffic lights to not piss off people behind them, fast abrupt stops at traffic lights because of talking on the phone or fiddling with radios or navigation etc. There is less police enforcement of traffic offenses now due to the cost of hiring officers. So I think that we have become poor drivers over the last generation and don't even know how poor our habits have become. The folks that are getting good mileage are likely the portion of the population that are the thoughtful law abiding personalities. The ones getting poor mileage are the ones with years of poor driving habits engrained and to get good mileage it will take a total make over of driving habits. I don't have my C-Max yet --but I probably am a mix of both types so it will be a learning curve for me for sure. Just wanted to add that I noticed some of these things when I bought my Smart Car. It has technology on the dash so you can watch instant gas consumption. The Smart Car has a weird shifting mechanism in that it is an automatic, but to shift smoothly you have to drive it like a standard transmission and let off on the gas pedal as it shifts up. After I bought it and I would drive away from a traffic light letting it do that smooth shifting which means you don't rocket off from a stand still. It was scary as drivers would assume that I would take off fast instead of in that shifting mode, and they would be right up on my bumper--very impatient to the point of almost rear ending me. So in rush hour I would just floor it like the rest of the folks, and while flooring it could watch the fuel consumption go from say 5 L per 100 kilometers to 14-16 L per 100 kilometers. So in conclusion, for hybrid drivers to drive sensibility it will take nerves of steel LOL. -
Ctford I doubt whether it is a lemon. Probably some soft ware glitch that will be fixed and all will be well. Let us know how things go please. Fingers are crossed that it is a simple fix.

Go further down on the forum under Maintenance, TSB's and Recalls and you can red RED's comprehensive story of his dead battery saga. He required a new instrument panel I believe. I hope this issue is not going to be a general problem generating recalls.

Welcome walkerw. Enjoy the C-Max and let us hear about your adventures with it.

Congratulations Bob. We test drove an Ingot Silver and I fell in love with the car then. We special ordered because my husband wanted the park assist (which I think is a frill that we are unlikely to use much). Keep us posted about what you think after you drive it for a few days.

Excellent detailed report! I am book marking it just in case. What breed are your rescue to dogs? We have had a few rescues over the years i.e. a Newfie, a Lab, a Bull Mastiff, and our current escapee from a California kill shelter who is Pom and Chi X.

Window stickers on Canadian C-Max's re: mileage
Laurel replied to Laurel's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
My husband says I am all wet with my calculations. He agreed with me initially and then he did the conversion via google. Here is the calculation: 4.0 L per 100 kilometers is the same as 113 kilometers per Imperial gallon. 113 kilometers per Imperial gallon is the same as 70 miles per Imperial gallon. So the sticker is correct. So when all of you are reporting in with 40 mgp to 47 mgp, I will be reporting in 69 and 70 per Imperial gallon which as Chinto says will make me happy. LOL. This metric system gets the best of me still and we converted multi years ago. -
This is weird and concerning. I looked at Craigslist this morning and a dealer is selling a SEL and is posting 70 mpg with pictures of the window sticker http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bnc/ctd/3343786067.html So I looked up my window sticker and it is the same i.e. 4.0 L in the city and 4.1 L per 100 kilometers highway. I know we have imperial gallons which are larger, but there is no way this posted mileage can be accurate! I wonder what the heck this is all about? There are going to be some unhappy Canadian buyers if they believe those window stickers.

Keyless Ignition and Valet Parking
Laurel replied to Dlcrouch's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Yep, you have to give them the fob. -
RMS13 thanks. I will email our salesman tomorrow. I always feel like a pest asking him to check so I tend not to bother. I know the only person at the dealership with computer access for tracking is the manager so they all have to go through him.
-
Welcome Shaners. We have a SEL with sunroof on order--303A package. Yes, the sunroof is a waste in that it doesn't open, and I ordered without it and changed my mind. We live in a climate that is very grey for 7 months of the year and we liked the filtered light coming in to help our moods <g>. Your mileage sounds good to me. We initially were going to buy a Fusion Hybrid and then fell for the C-Max.

RMS that is great news. Mine was builit one week before yours on 11/8, but cyberdman on the Blue Oval said this for me: In Transit - Received - Driver (Autoport Limited ) Ramp 44, Woodhaven, MI Nov-14-2012, 11:59 ET. ETA Dec-03-2012. I haven't asked my salesman for an update, but he had originally said Nov. 26th for the ETA. I'm not sure what it means when one goes to ramp 44 versus ramp 4G. My salesman said once they received a message that it was on a train then it would be 10-12 days. Mine isn't on a train yet so I am thinking Dec.3rd is probably more accurate for me. I wish I understood what happens at these ramps.

I'm going to miss Pickle--she's a great little car. But I'm sure Tip/Goober/or whatever name suits her will be as peppy too lol.

Rachel I meant to say that I want to save it and print it, but can't do that without going to Facebook. I can read it too, and it looks like it would worth having a printed copy handy.

Interesting report RaPieR. I think we all know how important consistent good driving habits are to good mileage in any type of vehicle. But we as a society so easily just follow the crowd in how we drive (me included). Gas here is nearly $6 a gallon, but you would never know it with the heavy footed, speeding, tail gaiting fools on our roads. And it's not just Canadian drivers--when we did our Palm Springs junket holy smokes was it scary on the freeways around LA. I found myself doing 90 MPH once to keep up with the flow of traffic! The only time I have seen drivers slow it down around here was once several years ago when there were real threats of gas shortages. I can hardly wait to get our C-Max to have some fun with trying to drive conservatively.
-
Not to start controversy, but I wonder if all the differing mileage stats relate to driver habits? Last year when we took a driving holiday to Palm Springs, we took my husband's Lexus SUV. When he drove the mileage was something like 14.8 L per 100 kilometers. When I drove, it got down to 12.4 L per 100 kilometers consistently. He always uses cruise control and I never do. He never speeds and I always speed. I am not sure what he does differently other than quicker starts and stops than I make. Just wondering??

Captaineddie was that something you were offered and paid for, or a courtesy from your dealer? I didn't see the exterior protection package offered.
