WARNING, I did notice that the product page says they do not fit my C-MAX, though I think they probably will. (If they do not fit it is because of the clearance, but these are limited clearance chains. " Meets S.A.E. Type "S" limited clearance, and state requirements for cable traction devices" ) (They are pretty heavy - may cost amazon more than $13 just to ship them.)

    I have a set cables from my last vehicle that are suppose to fit so I am not going to get something. But I did some browsing. Amazon has a bunch of socks for sale but most have only a few reviews. ( not sure what model C-Max would use but it might be the $180 model ) snoclaw web page http://www.flextrax.com/mycustompage0015.htm It says - "Both of these unique, built to last innovations, install easily over tires, without moving or jacking, even if the vehicle is already stuck!" I was stuck going up an icy hill in a apartment complex once and AAA would come not out because they were too busy. Ironically I was trying to go home after a date that didn't work out that great. Since then I carry a set of cables though never needed to use them. If I didn't have them I would look into these for when suck I want something easy to install for some of the actions needs to install chains may not be easily done with gloves on, and gloves off can be a super pain.

  4. Thanks, I like it. Does it just stay on ? I probably would use some twist tie. I was looking at home depot. They have thinner and thicker, and they have styrofoam-like(about $2) and kind of like a thick wet suit-like(about $5). Looking at the picture it looks like you use the thinner styrofoam-like type. And recommendations ?
  5. I believe I posted this before but not in this thread. I try to use up the battery on the way back to my house. That way in the cold, when I start the car and the engine automatically goes on to warm up the engine filling the battery, it has a lot of battery to fill up in that process. So the last couple miles I try to use lots of EV. I also bought a seat heater from ebay for less that $20 that works pretty well.

  8. I really liked the C-Max and own it despite the user interface. I find the design of the user interface pretty crappy. I am not sure how much of that is the Microsoft influence and how much is it the Ford influence or perhaps "Birds of a feather flock together."     With that early a production date, perhaps it was used to demonstrate the car and test it out so it was marked to be under the radar. Just because it comes from Ford leasing doesn't mean it wasn't leased to Ford.
  10. MAJOR no-no's, lug nuts and putting oil in the engine after draining the old oil. They are not misdeamor but felony screw-ups.
  11. I like idea of using this as an opportunity to get a REALLY good deal on an extended warrantee. They do kind of owe you.
  12. Someone started a thread about having $2000 damage because they hit, I think, a curb and the steering was messed up. I was surprised that was so expensive. As a teen I ran over a curb wtih all four wheels and only damage was 4 bent rims, 2 wheels had to be replaced. So I would make sure the steering was OK.
  13. I have faith that the service guys are polite and try to always sound competent. But having a message board like this one provides the ground to stand on when dealing with Ford service. Unfortunately, cars are so technical its hard for the do-it-yourself-er.
  14. Where I live I lot of the major roads are bumpy, especially in the right lane. My sense is that a say 215-60-16 tire would take the bumps better. ( 215-65-15 would take them even better but that is not as popular of a size so tires may be more expensive.)
  15. I would have gladly exchanged performance for lower tire replacement costs and extra mileage. 205's or even 195's would have been fine with me. As far as replacing the current tires, I am not sure what the stock rims will take.
  16. With the changes in the transmission ratios and the aerodynamics mods, I suspect Ford is going for improved highway and less city. So I would not be surprised to see city down 2 mph and highway up 3 or 4 with real mileage at 70 mph up even more. PS: I am thinking about making a cheap set of the wings on the windows out of silicone rubber caulking.
  17. Was your C-Max updated with 13B12, which is suppose to eliminate this problem, before the battery died ? If it were updated, that would not be good. Thanks.
  18. With the wheel fins there might be increased growth of ice boogers. ( Ford - it's OK to put a set on my car so I can test that out. )

  20. when it is cold the motor goes on when I start the car and charges the battery up. So I have been trying to finish my trips with a low battery so the warm up when starting the car has a lot of battery to fill when it is warming up the engine.

If you cut the wrong one the car blows up. (actually the parking light goes out which happened to me) So use the Green for the hot reverse wire(red) and Black for the ground wire(red and black).   23. When I am walking late at night on a road where traffic moves around 50 mph such that a single car goes by every once in a while, it is easy to notice how noisy the turbulence is. I would find it interesting to listen to your car vs a standard c-max. I was thinking how measuring the sound from a stationary location could be kind of a poor man's wind tunnel. I am impressed with your work and glad you share in on this forum. Thanks.
  24. I generally replace my tires way before they officially need replacement. The performance at 50% tread is not that great. On my last vehicle, a minivan, for the first set of tires I rotated once and then replaced all four. For the second set I basically did not do rotations, but replaced the front tires at around 50% tread.   25. The Quick: was able to pair but the Torque app indicated that it never could make the connection - the message would oscillate from "connecting" to "no connection." Not sure if it is the adapter or the Nook HD+. Also realized that the Nook HD+ does not have GPS. Torque says it can do more if it does. If I got it to work I was thinking about velcroing the tablet between the door and the dash so it doesn't block anything important and still is easy to see - though opening the door means moving the table first. I have a Nook HD+ and a bluetootth OBD adapter. This is the one I got http://www.amazon.com/Vgate-ELM327-Bluetooth-Scanner-ANDROID/dp/B00AAOOQJC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top but I actually purchased it from ebay. I was able to pair it to my thinkpad computer with the code 1234. The tablet seemed to pair without asking for a code which is kind of a red or yellow flag to me. After awhile I choose to get a refund. I wasn't sure how long I had to get the refund. I might try another app. I might get another tablet with GPS and camera. I might just forget it. I do know that the Nook ND+ doesn't pair with bluetooth headsets with a microphone which kind of implies not the best bluetooth coverage. This experience confirms some of the thoughts of others on this thread about using the CyanogenMod.
