  1. The Volt just turned 50,000 units sold worldwide with over a half of a billion miles travelled collectively. With those kinds of numbers, there have been more than few bad accidents over the years like this one: http://www.plugincars.com/chevy-volt-totaled-collision-school-bus-occupants-unharmed-110117.html and this one: http://www.hybridcars.com/young-woman-in-chevy-volt-survives-severe-drunk-driver-crash/ and not one battery fire. Give the low numbers of the newer Tesla sales and miles travelled in comparison, three fires is a huge discrepancy IMO that points to an achilles heel in their initial skateboard battery design. They need to fix it and fix it fast.
  2. That is great range compared to some of the ones I've had over the years; however, the phone based apps like the Energi and Volt use are basically limitless and aren't obstructed by buildings, line of sight issues, etc. OK, that jibes with the time I first started looking on ford.com at the CMax and could build it then with the factory remote. Yes you are and I do it too. "Intelligent access key" is a mouth full.
  3. BINGO! Yes, that's the thread I remembered reading. Thanks. Thanks Robert but it was the receiver location I was referring too. Oh I don't think there was ever any doubt by anyone here as to you having this rare accessory but just how to identify factory vs. dealer units and their differences. The factory unit certainly appears to be the better choice with it built into the FOB and more features so I wonder why they dropped it for dealer installs with a separate FOB?

    New Max

Welcome solo and CONGRATS! I bought a used 98 F-150 super cab v6 5speed and "hypermiling" I could squeeze 19mpg out of it! $75 fill ups every few days was tough but I bought it cheap, applied a lot of elbow grease to it and some new parts, and then sold it to the first person to come look at it for double my money. The fuel savings alone will make most of your new car payment! If you got any questions, poke around the sub-forums or ask away.
  5. IIRC,when I started getting serious about getting a CMax in late winter/early spring, a remote start was on my shopping list and the ford website was still showing it as factory installed option. I also recall there was a thread here that had pics of different mounting locations for the receivers that differentiated the two. Again IIRC, the dealer item mounted the receiver on the passenger side upper A-piller. Can Robertiv and JohnnOhio confirm locations?
  6. Maybe for Energi's but the hybrid with doesn't come with remote start. It's an accessory. I used ford.com and the build-it-now page.
  7. My prius was know for being 3-5% off. The ones in my Nissans (quest van and cube) were off too.
  8. Matt, what kind of winter are they predicting up there? Down here they're saying colder and wetter. It was 43f this morning which is unusual for this early on. Still I managed 48mpg on my morning commute. I didn't need HVAC although my son used his seat warmer on 3.
  9. I just checked the factory website and the only remote start option is a $395 dealer installed item with separate FOB's.
  10. EGGG-zacktly. The temp difference between the two time periods will be substantial.
  11. MOVE! :) Seriously, watch the HVAC temperature. Many times the ICE will come on just to provide cabin heat. Use seat warmers (SEL owners) to offset lower cabin temps. Avoid short trips as much as possible. Find a route that gets the ICE up to full temp ASAP. Others will have more tips. Good luck!
  12. +1 Yeah, that's why I first stating buying aftermarket units before they were readily available on new cars. Get that a/c going while I walked up giving the compressor a headstart on cooling down the vents in the dash so I didn't get a blast of hot air to the face upon start up. The CMax in auto mode does this too by slowly ramping up the fan speed as the compressor comes "on line". Nice touch.
  13. Tehuti, are you referring to the lifetime avg., a tank avg., or what exactly?
  14. I don't have auto-start on my CMax so I'm not familiar with its capabilities but I've had them on several other cars and yes they all timed out around the 10 min. mark. I installed one aftermarket unit that was programmable and could periodically start the car throughout the night if needed.
  15. Yes it's legal. It's not a light source. Many modern police, fire, EMS, etc damn near wrap the whole vehicle in reflective tape.
  16. WOW, that's a lot of work and effort for a 1-2 mpg gain especially when thinking long term. Unless professionally done, painting the outside won't last so what about an inside the spokes cover? Another suggestion; powder coated aluminum covers would be much more durable. I have a lot of experience in the durability aspect with motorcycle wheels. Have you done the 13B07 update?
  17. Yes the LED's would only be counted as two sources, plus the two DRL's, makes four. But if some wise guy wanted to count the marker lights..... Thinking about this some more, those are yellow so they probably can't be counted as driving lights so you'd be legal. Now if you had FOG's and also turned them on, then that could possibly count as six.
  18. So are you considering moving the POD's to the sides in a vertical line behind the rear wheel well starting up at the belt line and continue down to the bottom?
  19. +1 Had a slight tailwind and a very smooth road when I saw this on Eco-cruise @ 60mph:
  20. In Texas you can only have four driving lights on at one time. Could a LEO count the markers as six? Hmm.
  21. I got an early (3500 miles) free oil change at the dealership and they didn't reset it because about 6,500 miles later I got an early indicator around the 10k mark on the ODO. 7 months ownership so my wasn't based on time either. I changed and reset the oil monitor at 10K (August) and currently am at 17k. I do a lot more :shift: than you.
  22. Previously, I posted this discovery on my first oil change: there's a NACA duct on the oil pan cover. That told me all I need to know. :rtfm:
