  1. Agreed but one exception is when you give it enough throttle/speed up to normally activate the ICE but it stays in EV. Marty, you can force learn EV+ buy power cycling the car on and off 11 times in a row. It should be in EV+ the next time you arrive at that location.
  2. I read this thread when I was looking for touch up paint options. I couldn't find dupli-color or anything else at local auto parts stores and the ones available on Amazon, etc were pretty high dollar. So, I ended up ordering a Motorcraft bottle with brush and pen from the dealer for about $12 with 2 day delivery. It matched my ruby red metallic (tri-coat) very well (chips in front). I've had several metallic tri-coat finishes over the years and they can be very hard to match so I'm very pleased. Thumbs up.
  3. Newbies, they grow up so fast. <sniff, sniff> :)
  4. Heavy rain storm here yesterday and with lights in auto mode, they came on when auto-wipers activated. I now LOVE auto-wipers after that drive which saw everything from raining cats and dogs to drizzle to light mist to occasional spray from oncoming traffic. I never had nor wished to adjust the wipers the whole trip. NICE!
  5. Mid-july after their plant wide summer breaks is the typical time frame for model year change over; however, I read: http://money.cnn.com/2013/05/22/news/companies/auto-plants-summer/index.html
  6. +1 on keeping things cool. Remember: the hybrid battery is only cooled by cabin air.
  7. Your terminology is confusing. "Trip 2" as you are calling it is actually the "Trip Summary". There is another actual Trip odometer 2 that is commonly referred to as "Trip 2". The AVG meter (your left picture) only calculates and displays FE since its last reset. If you have never reset it since new, it will (should) match the Lifetime display. If you reset it every minute, then it becomes a minute avg. If you reset it once a day, then it's a daily avg. Powering off the car does not reset it. Resetting it does not affect other cumulative meters (trip 1, trip 2, lifetime, trip summary). Your second picture of the Trip summary is only a measure of the last trip the car has taken as defined by powering the car on and then off regardless of miles traveled. It can not be manually reset as it automatically resets itself after powering down. Like I said above in post #4, I like to reset my AVG meter every morning before I leave the garage to see what FE I get each day. I reset trip 1 (trip odometer #1) when I get gas to keep track of each tank and use that data for fuelly.com
  8. My first thought is check the 12v battery connections in the rear hatch and make sure they are tight. Also check the voltage level at those terminals (should be 12.7v or greater). Next, have you had any software updates?
  9. Those with a scanguage which can display both current flow and SOC can answer best. My money is firmly on light braking providing more charge being that the longer the coast, the more energy is consumed by tire and air rolling resistance that never makes it back to the batts. I get 100% brake score doing both so that doesn't reveal an answer. But your title asks which is better? Depends on what you're wanting. Hypermilers preach to never touch the brakes if you're looking for maximum mpg's.
  10. I wonder if they think the green part of hybrid badge looks like a flower. Your story sounds like it came right out of the movie, "The Life of Pi". :)
  11. Good points Colleen but remember that those old manuals were referring to traditional a/c systems. Most of those old belt driven compressors were run full time when recirc (MAX a/c) buttons or dials were selected; thus the poor FE. The CMax system is electric and especially in Auto mode will try and balance cooling with energy use. Here in the hot, humid south, I use recirc to lessen the a/c load for both temp and humidity. In our winters, I don't need recirc as it will fog windows PDQ without a/c or even light a/c use.
  12. ahh, that explains it. But I like my scenario better (imaging all the double-takes by employees as the OP drives by backwards!). :hysterical:
  13. Go thru the wash backwards (with it in Reverse gear?). :headscratch: My local Ford dealer doesn't offer free courtesy washes but the GM does; however, after paying for the gorgeous optional Tri-coat paint, I don't ever plan to use an automated brush carwash.
  14. I use the GasTracker+ app for my iPhone. It's not highly rated and is a little buggy being version 1 but it does what I need. If I wasn't able to instantly load the data while I'm still at the pump, I would not be on fuelie as I don't have the patience to write it down and then add it in later when I get to a computer.
  15. See post #39 in this thread.
  16. Hmm, good question. I don't know of any. As I've said in this thread, that is not how I use it. Trip 1&2 are be best suited for tracking both miles and MPG's.
  17. No, that is not the lifetime avg. Lifetime avg only shows up upon powering down the car and is labeled "Lifetime". The AVG meter which is displayed on most screens (engage, empower, etc) can be reset at anytime (except if you're in "My View" screen) by pressing and holding the left OK button for a couple of seconds. Like I said above, I reset mine daily or even multiple times a day for various reasons.
  18. The center console has a shallow cup holder meant to hold and cool a drink whenever the a/c is on. Some are using an empty cup instead as a storage holder that's easy to get to and remove.
  19. Wasn't the thread over/resolved at post #9 anyways? The thread continued to counter misconceptions about car air conditioning. There's no danger from recirc mode in a moving vehicle nor does one need to turn off electric a/c to lessen start up loads.
  20. Welcome to the site and congrats on your new car! :happy feet: How much was gas? $35 for a fill up assuming 12 gallons would be $2.91 or 13 gallons = $2.69. http://www.newjerseygasprices.com reports $3.17 as the low end of the market and that would put you at 11gal fill. 650/11gal=59mpg!!!!! :drop:
  21. The trip summary is a temporary figure that is automatically reset each time you power down the vehicle. The AVG meter has to be manually reset. If you reset the AVG meter immediately after you start the car and begin driving, the two meters should be exactly the same upon powering down at your destination. Mine do. I reset my AVG meter each morning as I try different techniques and/or routes.
  22. Correction: 39.3 With better mileage comes longer tanks. I bet fuelly lags a month or more behind and we'll see it continuing to increase even when winter hits for those of you who have winters. (ducks and runs)
  23. I believe, just like wing rider said, all iPhone are supposed to be incompatible but mine will txt to speech. Go into the MFT phone settings window to make sure txt-to-speech is turned on.
  24. March build with 3.5.1 from the factory and mine can read text sent to my iPhone 4s.
