  1. for those that don't know.. Auto means it's taking only HOT outside air and cooling it to bring it in which means it's working harder and using more gas. since its a never ending battle to keep the hot air cool, it never can achieve the temps you want especially if it's very humid outside. turn on auto every so often to get SOME fresh air and get rid of the carbon dioxide in the cabin from expelled air in your lungs but then go back to recirc as stated below. Recirc means it's only taking the already cooled down air in the cabin and cooling it so it's working less and using less gas and getting cooler faster.
  2. 1) welcome to the forum !!! 2) get the car tinted in all windows. how a lot. 3) keep a sun shade up in that HUGE CMax window in the front when parked outside to keep cool. 4) put the Windows down (use that auto down cool feature you have on your 303) to let out the heat after being parked in the sun, then run it on max ac for a bit with Windows up to get the cabin temp down to about 75-80 then go to recurc as others have said. 5) check it out at dealer good mpg for a new owner. keep it up. enjoy the car. and be sure to sign up on fuelly.com to track your mpgs.
  3. glad to hear the droid Razr (my current phone) is supported so they when we get the cmax for my wife i can use that feature.
  4. btw carpenivem, where did you find that flyer/graphic on the 2014 changes?? nice find.was that at the dealer?
  5. I'm sure Ford wants to be on top again and get a REAL 47+ mpg car to beat the Prius fair and square so I'm sure they are aiming very high to avoid the negative press this has all caused. they invested a lot in the cmax and they don't intend to lose the fight. a black eye can't kill you but it sure hurts and looks ugly for a quite a while...
  6. what do you mean? where did you see the white wasn't offered in 2014. with the FE announcements I'm still wondering if they will or won't change the order sheet for the 2014 model since these are all "must be" installed and not options. i want to see if any of these mods makes the car look worse or not. how not as we plan to get one soon.... anyone have any ideas what the a-pillar mod is and what it would do? does that mean they might change the angle of the window to name it more aerodynamic? the C-max IS a tall car which causes note aero drag compared to a sedan like the fusion.. hope they don't mess with the nice headroom this car has. to me that is a major change to the car and I'm surprised they can pull that of so quickly.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillar_(automobile)
  7. here is the thread/forum where we started taking about (around posts #10) installing the gas pods and their use and benefit and how to get them and the discount: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2266-a-discussion-of-aerodynamics-and-the-c-max/?hl=gaspods&do=findComment&comment=22525
  8. yes and if your already have lots of fuelly data it's usable as the baseline.just be sure to get the magnetic ones if you get the gas pods so you can move them around and test it and tweak it to get it just right. Also safer in case you mess it up...as has happened to one of our poor users here : === = = = = = = = quoted text: MI Cmax - they don't offer :airquote: testing samples, but apparently they do offer a discount if you baseline and report back (its like 2000 miles or something, their :airquote: testing Club). Check with the past posts here, somewhere.
  9. agree about the avg trip drive. my commute to work is 14-15 miles one way. i know with the housing boom in California many though moved to the cheap houses about 50s miles from the city so that with increase the avg in coming years data results for sure. the 12-15 miles is good since its long enough to get the car warmed up to temp and get some coasting and p&g going on to get your MPG up. most folks that only drive 5 miles or less are either super lucky to work so close to home...or are retired ;) no offense.
  10. very very cool stuff Andy.so glad you are reaching out and learning from the " customer" in any business that's the key..to know your customers needs, wants and try to not only meet the needs but excel and do even better so as to delight them not most net the minimum requirements (ie the kano model...look it up) .... so do i sound like a quality engineer yet??? (maybe because i am) :) so while we're at it...can we please be able to export the Fuelly data into excel, csv or even better for Minitab statistucal software use (yes i know Minitab can import excel files/data) so that we can manipulate it ourselves to do our own analyses? Also a better way to separate the models especially if the mfg offers both a gas version and a hybrid version so we don't end up with what we had happen with the cmax ...with some users falsely reporting their car as a hybrid when it clearly wasn't (European models which are gas only) for the 2013 model. thank you again for all the help and listening to the crowd.
  11. found something of interest in the comments section of this site. not sure if it's true but.... http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130826/OEM11/308269980/epa-says-its-mpg-test-holds-up-for-hybrids#axzz2d6FHyPOY "bwilson4web It turns out Ford already had the metrics that showed the C-MAX was not a '47 MPG' vehicle, their own 'roll-down' numbers. These 'roll-down' numbers are public records on the EPA web site, search for "EPA Test Car List Data Files." There is a simple, 2nd order, polynomial that converts the roll-down coefficients into the vehicle drag, horse power . . . the amount of power needed at any given speed to sustain that speed. The manufacturer's roll-down coefficients are all that is needed. When we applied this formula to the "Prius v" and "C-MAX" they were almost identical. The Ford does better below 20 mph and above 65 mph. Between 20-65 mph, the "Prius v" does better with the peak in the 35-45 mph range, ~11% better in this range. What we noticed is Ford's 'corrected' roll-down parameters for the dyno were . . . optimistic. In contrast, the Toyota "Prius v" numbers were dead-on. Apparently vendors are allowed to supply 'corrected' dyno parameters. Vehicle drag is a primary determinant of vehicle efficiency in real life. So when Land Rover claims their diesel hybrid will get 44 MPG (Imperial) / 38 MPG (USA) . . . well their current vehicle roll-down data says not very likely. Bob Wilson, Huntsville, AL"
  12. that was one of the very first ones i flagged as bogus even i was analyzing the data, so i removed it. their name and numbers are definitely suspect.
  13. plus, the pump is 2 digits whereas the dash is only one digit after the decimal right?
  14. read thru this to get more tips on what to do or not do: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510
  15. don't do it.that will defeat the purpose of you getting a hybrid. they can reduce mpg by as much as 10-30%,!!!!
  16. i miss playing golf. need to get back on the range someday soon.... yes the pros DO name it look sooooo easy when it's a nightmare not to yell, scream, cry, and curse at least on a few holes, :)
  17. so....now's your chance to place your bets on how many days, weeks, or months it will take for us to ORDER or PICKUP our cmax. Will it be a end of year 2013 model or a 2014??? its your call.... :) step right up step right up ...place your bets ...place your bets'
  18. well it's official. the countdown has finally really begun. my wife (cutie75) finally landed a job offer and accepted it and will be starting her new job next week!!!!! :happy feet: :happy feet: :yahoo: :wub2: so once she is settled and we start getting back on track we can save for the Cmax and get the car loan for her new car that is way overdue since her SUV only gets 16 mpg and is 14 yrs old but still running great. since she will be driving a lot more miles to work (about 23 miles one way) a new fuel efficient car is a must for her as the gas cost alone will eat up some of her nice increase in pay. looking forward to the day when we both become oofficial members of this cool club.
  19. I'm wondering if Ford will try and recoup some of their losses due to this FE check rebate thing by increasing the price on the 2014 models to slightly compensate a bit. if so we won't be happy campers.
  20. where did they hear about it as i don't recall seeing it on the tv news.... i guess some folks just love to be a$$es.
  21. ding ding ding winner winner chicken dinner!!!! :) :clapping: :happy feet:
  22. put your starting and ending points of your daily commute into Google Earth and the check the elevation change between the two points (using the properties details for each GPS point on the map) and plot the side profile to see how it changes along the route. steep hills will hurt your mpg compared to flat roads.
  23. why such a big difference between the two miles?' why not use your trip computer on the cmax to keep track of miles in between fill ups and use that number instead of the odo?? just reset that trip after the fill and start over for the next tank. did you reset all the trips and avg computers first when you got the car so you are using your real data not the dealers and test drivers data info??
  24. if you do that hill be sure to turn OFF eco cruuse as it will want to hunt waround ith the rpms and waste more gas. eco cruise is best for flat highway or longer stretches of road.
