Who says it can't be done-Post Highs here-over 25 miles traveled
Jus-A-CMax replied to salprint's topic in Fuel Mileage
Here is another comparison of my work runs. This is the route (start and destination changed for privacy). San Fernando to Oxnard, typically 51-52 miles. A little over half the route is freeway (210,118) and then highway (Los Angeles) from Moorpark across farmlands (50-55mph): Now, back in 12th December 2012, this same run with my odo at a young 938 miles. Temps, when I look at my property photos, was probably around mid 50s, it was a cloudy day: I did this same run recently, temps was 65F: So, the EV is about the same here 30.5 vs 30.3 miles (58% of this trip :wub2:) on both trips so this indicates I am driving about the same style. However, look at the Fuel Use, 0.91 gallon (12/12/12) vs 0.8 gallon recently, can one infer that Maxine engine is better at 7995 vs 938? Coming back, for the recent trip, I had 45.1MPG: Average for the recent trip is 52.75 MPG :happy feet: No trip data for the 1st trip as I had to deviate to another city on that day. Food for thought...it will take time for the CMax engines to break in, not the 1000 miles as we all seem to favor as the rule of thumb, but imo, more gradual starting from 3000 on up on the odo. As well, as support for my opinion, in the past - I have posted my 3 trips to Mammoth at various odo that also show improvements in the MPG given the same conditions. Does it peak or shallow out....we're still finding out. I hope those on a higher odo, can add to this. If not, I'll continue to track the data on my Maxine. Patience young grasshoppers... :) -
And in the spirit of Roninsd, congratulations to RachelinLA aka SparkyRachel on her 600th post today as well... It's only a question of time before Sparky clocks the 600 miles

^ :hysterical: I guess I keep my head for another day :)

I just had a great idea...with all these dead batteries in the CMax...all we need to do is to send SparkyRachel over and she can zap the CMaxs back to life...how 'bout that ;) <ducks out of here quick>

Yeah, I heard the huge storming is moving across now. Stay safe

Hey Gen, you get the dark car special deal buddy...make that 3 or 4 MPGs for you ;) -
Oh trust me, it does get hot - we just had a spell of 80+ temps last week, AC was on and even had it on while waiting for my client. I think I made a mistake with the black interior but hey, it is what it is and now way would I ever trade my Maxine for another one, she is just the sweetest car I have owned and driven :) PS If you look around and search ptjones' threads, he did stick a camera in there - be worth reading if you haven't already.

We're all in the hanging pattern waiting for the Ford Tower to radio us in for the update. No news yet but we do know the new CMaxs have the new update.
-
Come spring and into summar, watch the CMax band peak shift to the right as the MPGs and all the engines break in and more importantly, as the CMax drivers learn to max their FE. I heard SparkyRachel with her brand new Rainette are getting some ridiculous MPGs already for a brand spanking new car ;) Mind you, shes really knowledgeable already by hanging in this forum

If I were mod, you would be renamed "SparkyRachel" ...pzzzt...pzzzzt....pzzzzzt

Zalusky - :wub2: the twins mate! Good stuff there  Yeah, if you're posting in the 20s, something is severely wrong there and we have many, many posters driving in the cold of MI or AK (Hello Adair and DonHak :)) and mid 30s to low 30s is reasonable in all that cold but 20, wow. It is what it is and thus far, for me, the last 3 tanks have been 47+MPG and my 4th tank is at the moment 48.7MPG at 404 miles and I have a 1/3 left. So it is what it is and for me, I have NO DOUBT, this is a 47MPG vehicle. SoCal temps and driving conditions, tad over 8000 miles odo. May be I got lucky :)

You know, it came with the car when I bought it from Galpin Ford. What happens is that Galpin Auto Sports, which is their "customization" arm of the company will take some cars, add a tint to it, might do some black wheels and all kinds of customization including some very customizaed leather seats as well (which I saw in their Fusion Titanium). Sure they add it to the price but in the end, I literally got this for free as part of the package. I hated the tint (or the idea of paying for it) at the start but I've changed my mind, it's a must-have now imo. Really adds to the look of the car as well, imo. PM me if you want me to research this, I am good friends with the manager there and it's a minute question that I can ask.

Automatic, no doubt. I brought this up specifically with the engineers at the Irvine gathering, see Ford C-Max Irvine Pow-Wow. In summary, there was no clear answer specifically from the enginners as he stated its based on a number of factors programmed into the software including coolant, AC, and speed. This contradicts what was stated in an interview (see here: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/index.php?/topic/1190-online-chat-with-c-max-engineer/ ) where the shutters were labelled "dumb". If you also search this forum, some posters here particulary ptjones, have been also looking into the active shutters and have different thoughts on how they function. Confused, good, welcome to the club ;)

No rattles here, 8080 miles. Tight and solid. OP, take your car in.

Found this curiosity while going thru Fuelly.com - 688 miles 7.72 gallons http://www.fuelly.com/driver/pdibacco/prius In a practically brand new 13 Prius. I have heard of the Gen 2 doing 600 miles in their 11.9 gallon tanks, barely but more than 600 miles in 7.72 gallons? Legit or Fake?

truedat, who wants the yellow HOV sticker lanes on the bumper. Lets see....0 mph, battery draining rawking to Brittney Spears and Will I Am....or going into the HOV lane. Hmmmh.....
-
CA use to allow the Prius to drive the HOV lanes but not anymore, its only full electric now. Ugh.
-
Don't you miss the room and the constant engine roar? ;) Absolutely agree with you there...I love the view from the window, one of the best. At this rate, I am on track to nail more than 20,000+ miles before the year end, ugh.
-
Thanks Ron! You're more than welcome...I didn't even notice, made my night, working on a bunch of appraisal reports at the moment-whatta way to spend Sat night :nonono: However, in my past life, I have done 20,000 postings ...yes, I was a "post-whore" then...but now I am enjoying life instead except when I am stuck to the computer ;) Yep...one of the reasons why I like forums better than FB or other social sites, great place to share and care. a more community spirit - long live the CMax!

Yes and no. Yes if you are getting tired of P&G and no as the eco-cruise is bound to use EV or ICE on a flat area as compared to "manual", you can P&G with the regen on the pulse side as well as a coast side where NO ICE and you can decide how much EV you want to keep or use. For instance, if I know where the destination is, I can decide to keep the batteries as high as possible and use it on the surface street where you can do some EV P&G (at speeds 35mph-40mph) and cycle it. Also sometimes when you can clearly see the road is flat and there is really high battery and still eco-cruise is on ICE, you can double tap or on/off to trigger it to switch to EV mode (assuming your read is right and that the road is truly flat and not inclined - the car will tell you by either staying in EV or kicking in the ICE). It all depends and Ford gave us a really, really great car for us drivers to decide

My fingers are worn out, I can't type anymore about CMaxs or batteries or MPG...what is that last word, is that what the Chinese use for cooking... :runaway: Lol, Dennis...do it the easy way, test drive a Prius or the V, fang it here and there like a real car and then test drive a CMax afterward and see which is more driveable. PS welcome

If you want to see real nooks and crannies, do yourself a favor and take a look inside a 13 MKZ (which is a souped up version of the 13 Fusion) that thing has a bridge where you can put a cricket bat underneath the centre console. I wished Ford would have done something like that for our CMax.

Yeah, they could have done a better job with the covering down there but right now this panel is p*ssing me orf, it came off again and I showed the engineers at Irvine this as well as the scuff marks since they did ask about what I thought about the position of the pedals - suxor. Its off to Galpin on Monday to see about this, the liftgate and the MFT update, hope to have some news.

Added. :)

Yes, my experience seem to show that you get way more use of the juice when the batts are 70% or above as versus below 50%. I did discuss this with the engineers and they verbally confirmed my thoughts on the high battery status. P&G to build your battery and keep it as high as possible and you can still run EV from whatever level you want and let it go down to say no less than 50% and start the EV regen again. One caveat - in the extreme cold, which to me sings mid 20s and below, you may have high batts but you will struggle to keep up the high mphs, for example 55 mph. What you see is that even at the full EV power in EMPOWER, your speed of 55mph cannot be sustained long, much, much shorter than say at 40F or 50F. That is what I observed as I approach Mammoth Lakes in these cold or snowing conditions. Here is another advantage, when your batts are high, say 80% and you want to crank the CMax above 65 mph, go for it, you can see even with the eco cruise set to 68 mph, it will use the batts and keep your instant MPG above 40MPG (as versus 20MPG when there is low batts). This is on flats or down gradient roads but not up hill. I am calling it ICE High MPG, theres a thread about this somewhere and others have seen this happen to their cars at these speeds as well. IMO, batts high is always good - works excellent for the way I drive with Maxine :)
