I dunno about calling Ford incompetent since we hear some stories and we have and never will get the actual numbers of cars effected by this. If we followed the battery thread Ford has made some solutions available but it looks like some work and some did not. So they are doing something and it looks like the later models appear to have less issues. If I had to choose, I'll take your same preference. If it came to those 2 negative choices. I own a1st year model and I took a risk. Thus far, there are no issues. No trivializing those who have issues. Had I been unfortunate, then I know what a great dealer I have in Galpin Ford and they will take care of business. And I will disclose my GPS was all cockeyed in the early days and advise from ArizonaEnergi and then I suggested Galpin replace the module eventhough the Ford testing (over 2 days) reflected nothing (if I recall the conversation). Since then, its been SPOT ON. I can't speak for AE but I truly believe there were a bad batch of GPS, and occassionally these bad GPS come up (you can always tell by the comments - "Hey I'm driving on the mountain or the river" kinda post). Based on what I have seen here, it appears bad issues reflect poor customer service between dealers and the owners. And trivialization from some dealers as well because they do NOT understand hybrids (jus look at the funny post about Jennifer? the sale person about the CMax one poster here posted - see she's famous now) I'm thankful for my car, BLISTERING MPGs daily that is well beyond the original EPA and so many positive aspects to the car, I'll consider it one of the best cars I have driven and owned.

Has anyone seen anything about 2013 C-Max Battery Issues?
Jus-A-CMax replied to Tracy Lichlyter Nonell's topic in Batteries
Mod thread edited - moved this thread to the appropriate Batteries section. @Tracy Lichlyter Nonell Welcome, welcome, welcome :) As P3G posted, there are many threads here relating to the battery. Some owners have this, many don't and it seems more prevalent with the early SE. You have the SEL and so do I and I know my ONLY battery dead issue was man-made - the repair shop (from accident) left the head lights on. If any of our posters have any dealer issues or CMax issues - we are lucky to have official Ford Motor Company reps here, see Official Ford Service Rep Ashley is here to help sort out any issues you may have even tough ones like batteries. Not every car is perfect and even the most expensive cars like Aston Martins, lemons are prevalent and I don't expect these to improve with cars such as our CMaxs becoming more like computers than just plain mechanic iron beasts with a gas burning engine. Feel free to join in any discussions in our wee lil CMax community. :) -
So FedEx just dropped off a check from Ford for $475. New MPG.

@knahs42 SEL generally have less chance of battery issues than the SE. If this fourm is the world, one could extrapolate to reckon there are far more satisfied SEL owners with NO battery issues whatsoever than SEs (there was even a poll here). I think its more important to check out the dealer rating (go see that section here) than the deal being offered as if you have any issues, a reputable dealer is worth their weight in gold, versus a "fly by night" dealer. Ford is well aware of these issues and there has been some success. Every car has issues - just look around. A dead battery risk is far better than a dead car ala GM. As salsaguy said, at least not 1 person has been killed with a dead battery vs GM. Check out the dealer and do your assessment with heavy weighting there...jus my 2c.

I am seeing A LOT more CMaxs now in the San Fernando valley, driving around this GIANT valley city with tons of traffic. I don't feel I am the only flag carrier in this city anymore - YAH!

Great post PullingMussels and welcome to the forum :)

Oh Nick, I enjoyed that  :drop: Seriously, city is where the CMax is as strong or stronger in MPG than the V imho. If I can get 60 to 65 MPG round trip daily driving between 40 to 50 miles a day(depending on where I go after work) with some thoughtful route and EVing here in heavy motor city, Los Angeles, CMax drivers can do 47-53 MPGs city without blinking. As for repairs, who knows - 1st gen car, hard to say what will last and won't, just keep the CMax regularly serviced, should be fine.

Oh, get the 2016 ;)

Someone has traded in their CMax for a Prii - better MPGs. :secret: I may be next but don't let Nick ever see this post.

CR's 10 Least Reliable Cars - C-Max leads the list
Jus-A-CMax replied to maxed-out's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
You and Matt can battle it out for the most miles. I am very happy to reduce the miles I once did in the 1st year. Thankfully my job is ALL city driving and if I choose to drive fwy, I can do so but waste more gas, blockage and greatly reduced MPG - so I rather spend only a little more time for quieter streets and MAX MPGs. Gotta :flirt: this "least reliable car - CMax leads the way" :victory: -
CR's 10 Least Reliable Cars - C-Max leads the list

Long ride indeed - 32,000 miles. Mostly city but I get to drive to Mammoth every winter from Thanksgiving to Memorial Day and I drive it to work, golf and use if for real. In heavy traffic et al...and in the city of high gas prices - granted not as high as say Hawaii. 50.1 lifetime MPG. Yes, long driving and not long drive my friend ;) -
:happy feet: &
-
I got mine today...NICE! God I :flirt: this car, 2 checks from Ford, and a handful of checks from the surveys early on makes me feel like I picked up a SEL for the price of the SE  Thank You Ford Motor Company!

My Cmax has been rear ended, fixed to almost new including the leather smell now and still getting BETTER MPGs than it before the crash, what a car. I don't care if they rate it all the way down to 3 MPGs, I know what this car is capable of in the right hands. Now, the check will be a NICE bonus - if Tehuti has it, it must be close, checking the mail box. Enjoy the :happy feet: $$$ :spend: fellas - lots of beer money in there for sure

Time the lights and find "quiet" streetsand less traffic lights would YIELD better MPGs than a 1, 1.5 or 2 bar burn. But what do I know... ;)

Ford C-max least reliable car in America (Says CR)
Jus-A-CMax replied to Seth7721's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
Cheer up AS2014 - I totally hear you. Things are only as bad as you want them to be, still lots and lots of positives with the CMax. For every negative, 1 post dumpers like the Lemon thread, I will post a positive one. For every "the CR is right dumpers - this is not more than a 38MPG car", I will post my next nth 800+ mile tank. I never had a more FUN car to drive than the CMax and saving $$$ - well compared to my wife's aging Jaguar Vanden Plas. Gas is still above $4 here in Los Angeles. ps I'll keep my CMax till that make it a 100 MPG car or when Ford finally releases a 500+ electric beast in the same body shape. It's really a super utilitarian car to the snow, and city driving - KILLER city MPGs for sure. -
:congrats: - you are now FIRED from the Consumer Report fan club! ;) See, things are possible with the CMax. Now go work on the 700 and 800 tanks
-
meh, no longer bothering with updating Fuelly...but have fun guys ;)
-
snakebitten - wonderful post & if I may, on behalf of all the CMax members here, we all pass you our condolences and prayers to you & your family. Also, as someone whos hitting the 32K mark, the car still gets better and better and better. Enjoy your MPGs and the car, your wife was very WISE to choose the CMax and seeing something special in this car, jus as much as she saw in you when she married :flirt: you. God Bless :)
-
I will add that when your non-hybrid loving spouse drive your CMax - you are GUARANTEED to drop 10 to 15 MPGs when they pull the car into the garage.
-
Certainly welcome to the CMax family here on the wee-web :) Tell us about the new car ? :victory:

Ford C-max least reliable car in America (Says CR)
Jus-A-CMax replied to Seth7721's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
They have no skin in the game, as much as they tout they buy their car. Their only purpose is to test and not make use of the car, or learn how to best drive the car. Hybrid driving is never hooning, go get a Mustang if you want to fang. -
:finger: All of you 600+ milers are a TOTAL DISGRACE. You'll never set foot in Consumer Report building and will never get a job there. :rtfm: How dare you FLAUNT the CMax and drive the car 600+ miles a tank when the EXPERTS at CR says you only GET 38MPG, that 500 miles only! No more MPGs for you lot.... :)

don't we all....
