  1. Good point. As our Energi is a perfect around-town car ($3.00 to go 100 miles!) we anticipate keeping it a long time, but may go back to owning two cars and buy a larger one for long trips, hauling stuff, etc.. (Wife missing the Odyssey on trips.)
  2. Lets face it folks, when a car has low demand the resale prices are also going to be low. There's just not enough people clamoring for a car most of them don't even know exists. I paid too much in Feb 2013 for it and expect to not get a lot for it when I sell it. So it goes. Maybe I'll do better on the next one.... hope springs eternal!
  3. Well, we had the three recalls done today, or rather tried to. They did two involving the re-programming but sure enough they did not do the module replacement as the module had to be ordered. My service guy could not tell me how long it would take to get it, but it's rather irritating that another trip/day will be required to finish the repair.
  4. I'm going in next week for my first oil change (11,000 miles (4,800 ICE) - 22 months - no maintenance message) and to have three recalls taken care of: 14S04 - REPROGRAM RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE 14E02 - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING 14S21 - RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT My SR didn't say anything about not having the module in stock. More Wednesday afternoon!
  5. Wow! A hot fuse - who would have guessed that! Sounds like you may have found the problems that lead to a lot of dead batteries!
  6. I can see the future. You're driving along and an ad pops up on the screen announcing a big sale at a store one block ahead. Or as you drive by Safeway a "got milk" message flashes, maybe with a nice video of cows.
  7. Yep, if the poll has a "self-caused" option! I think in all the previous 13 cars we owned we never once had a dead battery from leaving the lights on, primarily because when they were on they were on. As pointed out in the Energi thread, the parking lights are what stay on and drain the battery when the headlight switch is left at "on". And when one doesn't go back into the garage for a few hours that might be enough to kill these small 12v batteries.
  8. No, not for that reason, rather the much more likely reason - I left my headlights on! But I think my experience may provide a useful lesson for C-Max owners. I got up before dawn yesterday and headed out for a short drive to relocate a captured pack-rat to a more rat-friendly habitat. I turned the lights on, as we so seldom drive at night I never use the auto-setting, which may be mistake #1. When I got back it was generally light outside, the garage was lighted, and I forgot the lights were on. I pushed the on/off ignition button, which turned the headlights off (as I confirmed in a test), and when I opened the door the headlights-on alarm rang, which I ignored as I was probably thinking about happy rats and homeowners. When I got out and shut the door the headlights were off, so no indication of anything amiss. Eight hours later I go into the garage I notice the turn lights flashing about every 3 seconds, something I had not seen before. I thought maybe a door was ajar, but all was well, so I opened the drivers door and got that sinking feeling as the familiar dash lighting up was not happening. I instantly knew what I had done and turned the headlights to off, and popped the hood. I hooked up my charger and it was reading 7.7 volts, and it proceeded to charge for about the next six hours (used 8 amp rate) and all was restored. Checked it this morning, and did a re-creation of the series of actions I did to confirm how the car responds, and the car was back to normal operations. Here's my one very interesting finding, and perhaps someone knows what's happening: with the headlights set to "on", and the no-key ignition turned "off", the headlights are off but apparently a large battery drain is still happening. I've learned my old-dog-age lesson, and plan to start using the auto-feature now and let the car do its job and handle the headlight function.
  9. Just the one specific segment had the Energi, and it appeared to be the US version as that's the market the in-show advertisement is aimed at. Otherwise, they have been driving all types of Fords wherever they are.
  10. I think each winner got the Energi, not the Hybrid. One group had 19.6 miles IIRC and went over the .1 gallon contest limit, while another pair had 22.4 miles and were under it.
  11. I see Tom and Ray Mariachi of Car Talk fame, rate the nitrogen-filled tire as a "scam". http://www.cartalk.com/content/scam-detector-7
  12. I found the C-Max tires to hold pressure the best of any tire I've owned. Probably have only had to adjust them once or twice in the last two years.
  13. Glad to hear Costco is doing this now. Will take advantage of it, sans nitrogen which I think is useless in cars, at 20,000 miles, having done it myself at 10,000.
  14. No idea. The bikes are nearly completely behind the vehicle so it would depend on the turbulence it creates.
  15. No problem with the 2", which I'm glad I got as it fit my existing bike rack and the tray I bought at Harbor Freight without the need for an extending sleeve. Doesn't really extend beyond the bumper.
  16. Indeed I did. First the software fix that fixed nothing, then the module replacement that fixed everything. It's been rock solid, exact location shown at all times, ever since. Try the software route, but be prepared to insist on the GPSM being replaced! BTW, I have had over 5,000 views of my YouTube video on this problem!
  17. I think it could do it but at what harm to the transmission, suspension and breaking system? That said, I think American car makers choose to not assign towing capabilities to many vehicles that could easily tow and they intentionally understate the towing limit for some reason, either liability or they just don't want to reduce their pick-up truck, etc. sales. I towed an 1,800# trailer with a Honda Element rated at 1,500#, and a 3,500# trailer with an Odyssey rated at 3,500#. I could easily move the 3,500# around my driveway by hand, so the effort in towing is not that great, with air resistance being a big issue, but stopping puts stress on the brakes and the transmission does heat up from the effort (most require supplemental radiators for towing), something the C-Max is not equipped to deal with. He should rent a pick-up or other vehicle to tow his trailer IMHO.
  18. I've had a few people stop to talk to me about my Energi, and heck yes, if another C-Max owner, even if they "only" had the hybrid version, wanted to talk, I would allocate an hour or so to it.. I always park next to the same model if I can in parking lots. The more, the merrier!
  19. That seller has a number of those arm rests. Here's the one for the Fusion: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Center-console-armrest-storage-box-elbow-supporting-for-FORD-FUSION-2013-2014-/331242872848?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d1f9d2010 Very interesting.
  20. I hope they do something that fixes the problem for you. I only wish we knew that Ford was flying in their best engineers to diagnose and fix this problem once and for all, or air-freighting the cars to the factory for a complete strip-down and analysis. I just hope these cars haven't gotten too complex that the best we have can't fix them!
  21. You might want to post this on the Energi forum for additional responses (and do a search as it's been discussed), but I used a cable lock and padlock thru the wheel on a trip. Also consider rolling the tire on top of the cord with or without a cover to protect the cable.
  22. Quoting diesel MPG without adjusting for the price difference vs. regular is a very common mistake. When I had a diesel it was less expensive than Regular - those were the salad days! The same applies to cars like the Volt that require Premium, although the adjustment is much smaller.
  23. No kidding. WTF were they thinking to have that panel removal required to jump the battery? I would hope it has a 12v always-on outlet that could be used in lieu of pulling that panel for a quick start.
  24. 10k and no problems other than a defective GPS module and difficulty upgrading MFT software a year ago. A great car.
  25. When I use Explorer in Win 7 or 8 it opens exactly where it was the last time I used it, usually the middle of the screen.
