Has anyone looked at the content on the SD card and how large it is? Seems to be a bit unreasonable to have to pay $100-$200 to replace a removed card when it would be a trivial thing to copy. Or would that be unethical and/or illegal?

Check to see if there is an SD card in the slot under the armrest. This contains the navigation map data.

The good news is that the C-Max Hybrid is second in the Wagon ratings based on Overall Road Test, with a rating of 83 vs. the Mazda 5 Grand Touring which had a rating of 88. Next was the Volkswagen Jetta at 81 and the Prius V at 80. The C-Max also has one of the lowest Cost Per Mile ratings at $0.54. Unfortunately it continues to be rated unreliable by CR for the early problems with the MFT system, and perhaps the battery issues, and is given the only Worst Predicted Reliability Survey Results rating for a Wagon. Hopefully the next rating survey will see this rating reversed.

Perhaps yours was one of the "seldom" events? Let us know if you have another one and we can change from "seldom" to "not infrequent". I like how you avoided using the goop. Good idea as I don't think that would have occurred to me if I got a flat around town. I'd probably just use the goop and pay the price, when it could have possibly been avoided - even if it took a couple of refills on the way to the tire store. I bought a doughnut tire for road trips.

Ford admits touchscreen defeat
ArizonaEnergi replied to valkraider's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Looks like Sync may be getting a new OS. Probably unlikely that will be installed in existing cars though. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-02-22/ford-said-to-swap-blackberry-s-qnx-for-microsoft-in-sync-system -
Here's the poll of Energi owners battery experience I'm currently running. So far we have 53 respond with no battery problems, 4 who have had one failure, and 2 with two or more. http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/topic/2235-all-energi-owners-please-answer-poll-on-12v-battery-problems/

Ford admits touchscreen defeat
ArizonaEnergi replied to valkraider's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I'm satisfied with the manual controls that compliment the sync alternatives on the C-Max, especially with how well the voice recognition works. -
I think this is a good reminder that we're not driving our father's 1970 Buick anymore!

I lost voice commands
ArizonaEnergi replied to HPRifleman's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
While reading this thread I realized I didn't know how to exactly re-boot the MFT, so I followed some of the links and put together a list that I added to the owner's manual PDF, which I store in Dropbox, and thus on all our tablets and an iPod, one of which would always be in the car. Note I removed the leading http: from the links to keep them fully visible in this post. ====== You can reset MFT by using this procedure: //support.ford.com/sync-technology/perform-master-reset-sync-myford-touch Your vehicle must be in Park and running, not in Accessory mode Make a note of any saved Navigation points and other personal data. This process will erase all of your data from SYNC, and will restore SYNC to factory settings Disconnect any USB devices and SD cards that are connected to your vehicle's media hub. If you have an SD Card Navigation system, be sure to remove the SD card 1. Using your system’s touch screen, touch Settings, then touch System. 2. Navigate to the second page of the System menu, then touch Master Reset. 3. When SYNC prompts you, touch “Yes” to continue. 4. “Performing scheduled system maintenance…” appears on the touch screen for several minutes. 5. The home screen reappears. The master reset is now complete. Or, you can reset it by disconnecting the negative 12 volt battery cable for a few minutes, then reconnect it. Or, pull fuse 67 and 79 in the fuse box behind the glove compartment. Re-insert the fuses after a few minutes. Or, MFT can be reset without losing presets by this procedure: //outofmytouch.com/reboot.html The delayed reboot application is a small utility that you can plug into your USB port in order to force a reboot of MFT. It is better than a master reset because it will not reset any of your settings. Thread: //fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2390-mft-mostly-non-function-how-to-reboot/?hl=%2Bmaster+%2Breset#entry23987 -
Interesting that Tesla is experiencing, apparently, some of the same 12V battery issues that the C-Max's have, with some of the same solutions. http://www.plugincars.com/tesla-owners-encounter-ev-related-problems-12-volt-battery-129287.html

Although the C-Max is not rated for towing, I saw these links over on another forum where a hybrid car discussion was going on and thought I should file them away here for others to view. Best Engine RPM for minimal FE loss.
ArizonaEnergi replied to John Sparks's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
I wish! But no, that's 20 for each leg of the trip, with a full charge starting each leg. My best EV miles in local driving before the ICE started is 25.2, 25.8 and 26.8 so far. Many times it also looked like it would have been above 24 but I arrived at home before the ICE started. Perhaps the EPA test won't detect the hood-sealing, air dams, and rear fins that the 2014's have so the official MPG rating will be the same?

Best Engine RPM for minimal FE loss.
ArizonaEnergi replied to John Sparks's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
I found this 2,000 RPM idea intriguing, so I tried it this week on my recurring 300 mile trip I take mostly on the Interstate to visit the mother-in-law. After switching from EV Auto, to EV Later to start the ICE about a mile from the Interstate I selected the view with the tachometer and made an attempt to keep the RPMs at 2,000 for the majority of the trip. What I observed on the 75MPH Interstate is that the speed varied from about 62 to 72 as a result in the gentle change in slope and elevation, but speed hovered at about 67-68 for a majority of the time, but for a short time until going up or down again. This speed was when it appear the road was the most level. Luckily traffic on the mostly 3-lane Interstate was moderate so my varying speed wasn't an issue. Driving through Phoenix was another matter all together and there I had to maintain a 68-70 speed during that 20 mile segment. So, what was the result? Well, it did return the best MPG of my five monitored trips, but not by much. And this trip was largely without the A/C on, while the previous ones used it constantly. Considering the amount of effort required to keep it at 2,000 and the result, I would not do it again but just set the cruise control at 68 if I wanted to maximize MPG for some reason. Each segment starts with a full EV battery so I also calculate a "hybrid-mode"(HM) MPG by subtracting an estimate of 40 miles driven in pure EV mode. Two bikes on the back also contribute to mileage in some fashion. 65-70mph: 37.9 MPG - 35.4 HM Ending miles: 635 75mph: 38.8 MPG - 33.8 HM Ending miles: 1,540 67mph: 41.8 MPG - 36.3 HM Ending miles: 5,817 71mph: 41.0 MPG - 35.7 HM Ending miles: 6,800 62-72mph: 42.2 MPG - 36.9 HM Ending miles: 7,458 (2,000 RPM test) It would be interesting and maybe useful to have a cruise control that allowed you to set the RPMs rather than the speed!- 99 replies

Ford's C-MAX Solar Energi Concept?
ArizonaEnergi replied to lowbar's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
The moving car thing sounds like an engineering pet project and I don't see that being practical in the real world. It will be interesting to know how much charging this cell will do in 8 hours on a sunny day. I personally wouldn't pay a lot of money for such a charger on the Energi, maybe $500 but I suspect it would sell for much, much more. -
I think I have found the source of my opener problem. Apparently, it started after I moved a Foscam WiFi camera out into the garage and I didn't link the two events. Light bulb went on went I moved the camera to the front porch and the C-Max Homelink remote button started working again. (Had been taking 4-5 pushes close to garage to get it to work.) Here's a discussion of Homelink problems which includes the Foscam issue: http://rdx.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=894794

I'm at about 6,500 miles and one year and have been thinking about doing my own tire rotations, until I saw the recommended pattern in the manual. That would be difficult to do without multiple jack stands or jacks or, like I have, a spare tire, which will help but it will still be a PITA! Think I will wait for 10,000, who knows, I may be hit a meteor and avoid rotating them altogether!

Funny OP! Talk about buyer's remorse! I for one just slide my thumb over the black square and listen for the solenoid to thump. The wife likes to double punch the fob and get a honk.

Vehicle Health Report Hell
ArizonaEnergi replied to userw014's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
I've run it about four times without a problem, well, except for forgetting to have the car on for a minute before running them. Other than the first time as a test, I've been doing them to qualify for a better car insurance rate from State Farm for low mileage. I've been on 3.6.2 and am generally satisfied with the operation of MFT since that upgrade, except for its inability to remember where I paused audiobooks running on a USB thumb drive. -
Recall 13C07 caused my accident!
ArizonaEnergi replied to Brazen's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
Yeah, I think you own this one by leaving it in reverse while getting out. Just one of those oops moments we all have throughout our lives. Did everyone see the story about the girl that was killed last week by a truck left in reverse? Ran over three times by it before someone could stop it.
