2013 CMax, 75k miles, strut replacement
ptjones replied to pianewman's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
With 207k miles on mine and I haven't replaced struts yet. It has a little softer ride than new CMAX, but doesn't porpoise. I do use 50 psi in tires which stiffens things a bit. I don't remember anyone replacing struts yet. Paul -
I think you are missing the point, The Michelin's are cheaper on the long run when you add in gas savings and lasting longer, I have 79k miles on mine so far. Some people didn't have very nice things to say about P4's. Paul

It seemed to me that a bearing was wearing out, because the longer I drove MADMAX the more slop there was in the planetary gears. I guessed that they didn't heat treat some of the bearings right and there was probably a number of ovens so some would be OK and a few wouldn't. IMO, we will probably never find out unless someone tares a trans apart. Paul

The failures have to be in the hundreds, maybe more. The Dealer that replaced mine had already done 3 before mine and that was almost 3 yrs ago. Probably more like a thousand or so. Paul

I also agree with Plus 3 Golfer, WT will not be the problem, with having my trans fail I would be very reluctant to adding more stress to the trans. IMO :) Paul
-
I don't think WT will be a problem, just worried about the trans. Paul

Camping Question
ptjones replied to wallsofthecaveVT's topic in Electrical, Gauges, Instruments, Lighting, Rear View Mirror
Now that I think about it the other day I left the tail gate open for an hour or so and the lights were all off. Paul -
It will be interesting to see what's going on, doesn't sound like the battery. It would be interesting to see what the SOC of the HVB was. :headscratch: Paul

Camping Question
ptjones replied to wallsofthecaveVT's topic in Electrical, Gauges, Instruments, Lighting, Rear View Mirror
I think after a while the lights will automatically turn off to keep the battery from running down. :headscratch: Lock the doors with your FOB. Paul -
Generally I go with the right lane and what ever speed it's going. That could be 60 - 80 mph, but I try to keep it under 70 mph and try to draft when ever possible. Generally traffic is pretty heavy around Atlanta, but it is still going 65-75 mph so you are drafting automatically most of time. :) I'm always amazed people tailgate, 10-20 feet going 60-70 mph, I like to be 50 - 100 ft, but then people just fill up the space. Paul

I thought the Escape Hybrid was coming out first, https://suvtrend.com/ford/2019-ford-escape-hybrid/ with the the plugin to follow. :) Paul

I changed mine and didn't bother to update the computer, if it was a real problem I would get it done or I would figure it out. :) Paul

Transmission to be replaced - have a question
ptjones replied to Catmobile's topic in eCVT / Transmission
This is what I like and I use to get it at Walmart, but they stopped caring it. Lucas or Chevron Techron injector cleaner would be cheaper alternatives. :) Paul -
How long should brakes on the CMAX Last?
ptjones replied to howie411's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
I have 206k miles on mine and should be able to go another 200k mi. :) Paul -
Transmission to be replaced - have a question
ptjones replied to Catmobile's topic in eCVT / Transmission
I find it interesting that I have 100k ICE miles on MADMAX and I still getting great MPG's, I have used Premium 99% of the time and traveling all over the country I try to use BJ's, Sam's, Walmart, Pilot and Love's, but sometimes you do the best you can. I do use injector cleaner periodically and think that is why I haven't had any problems. BTW I run my tanks down low most of the time, .5-1 gallon left. With 320 tanks I have run out 6 times with no problems so far. :) Paul -

Maybe once a year, you don't have many miles for a 5+ year old car. :) Paul -
And I'm still getting best MPG's that I have ever gotten. With 409 mi. on this tank and 410 mi. to Empty, currently 58.9 mpg with 50% HWY. :) Paul

Transmission to be replaced - have a question

Maybe another injector. :headscratch: Paul -
Well I've put about 120 miles on replacement half shaft mostly FWY and it seems to be running smoothly, no vibrations. :) Paul
-
From what I can see it just cracked along the seem maybe a 1/4 to 1/3 the way around where the grease was coming out. Keep in mind that it has 206k miles and 108k since trans replacement so I'm thinking alot of miles. The only thing I noticed was a slight vibration like ICE missing in acceleration. I replaced the plugs for the first time :) , I think they were fine and didn't make much of a difference. The problem felt like it was in the right front drive train. I needed to rotate my tires and notice grease inside my right front wheel so I knew something wasn't right. Checked wheel bearing but no grease, but there was grease on inside of half axle. The other half shaft looks fine so far. Paul
-
This should be going down pretty fast now with fewer cars left to be sold. Paul
-
No it didn't. :) This was an easy job to do except for getting the ball end shaft out and back in the wheel knuckle. Paul

We will see and I think if I had to do it over with I would gotten rebuilt mine or exchange for FORD one. I would want CV joints replaced though. I will drive it tomorrow to see if everything is OK. With two people doing this it isn't to bad. I saved $450. :) Paul

I decided to drain Trans Fluid and only got 3.5 Qts out. Have pics of my setup to put New Trans Fluid back in. I put 4 qts back in and it was full will some TF up my tube so I started ICE to circulate TF through cooling lines to get any air out. It did lower enough so it wasn't coming out level hole, but just barely. :) Paul
