2 blowouts at 51 PSI -- so I did the math and made a spreadsheet
ptjones replied to J.C.'s topic in Wheels & Tires
Over inflation by definition is either when the center of the tire wears faster than the edges or using above 51 psi which is Michelin's max pressure for OEM tire. 38 psi is FORD's recommended tire pressure and they say not to go over Tire Manufacturers (Michelin) Max pressure on the tire. I got 78k miles out of my last set of fronts and currently have 83k miles on backs which are on the front now for 5k miles. I have been using 50 psi for 200k+ miles and got 64k mile out of the first two sets which weren't worn out, but I was going to be driving a lot of miles in the snow so I wanted to have max tread. I have never had a blowout in 215k miles, but two punctures that were fixed and one in the the sidewall at 78k miles so replaced two tires. Michelin's Energy Savers are warrantied for 55k miles. It would appear that Michelin Energy Savers 93V last longer at 50 psi than 38 psi recommended by FORD. :) Paul -
Fuel injector failure every 37,000 miles

I think most have been replaced under warranty. Trans is in the $5-6,000+ range and would cost $1-2,000 labor. Paul -
87E10 VS 93E10 VS 90E0 Fuel Economy and Spark Advance
ptjones replied to plus 3 golfer's topic in Fuel Mileage
I tried a test comparison between E87 vs 91E0 in my 2016 F150 EB 2.7L 4X4 going to AZ. It would appear that I got 1.6 mpg better mpg and the difference between Smart Gauge and Fuelly was .6 mpg. EPA/FORD use 87E0 to do their testing which would explain some of the difference between Smart Gauge and Actual MPG's. BTW 91E0 was $2.40 per gallon in OK, First time I used Premium in my truck which has 36/gallon tank. http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/f-150/2016/ptjones/429143 Life Time average of 23.5 mpg and 26 mpg twice, almost 900 miles on a tank. This is similar to what I have seen with my CMAX. Paul -
Just makes me wonder with 215k miles, probably 105k ICE miles my injectors are still running fine with injector cleaner every 20k miles. Paul
-
It would have been interesting if you have tried using the injector cleaner before replacing the injectors. :headscratch: Maybe someone else will try it when they have problems to see if it makes a difference. Paul

Not sure what you mean: "The entire set's below 3 mm tread left now, so, I can't complain about them making noise. I won't hear it ever again. " Are you putting on new tires? :headscratch: Paul

I would think pretty much any auto coolant would fine. Do you have a leak? Paul
-
Yes :) I'm pulling hard enough I'm worried about breaking it. I thought it would pop out easier than this. Your pic doesn't look like the CMAX panel. The panel goes all the way back to the back of the console. I have made some more progress and I'm trying to remove the glove compartment to pull the panel out. I unscrewed four screws from glovebox but it feels solid still. I haven't been able to find anything in Service Manual on how to remove glovebox yet. Paul

Here are pics of black plastic plug near the bottom of foot well on passenger side where coolant is leaking out. This is from the Service Manual Here are heater hoses going to the firewall Paul
-
I have a leak coming from heater hose that is leaking on to a plastic plug on passenger side of firewall on to the ground a little. I visually saw it dripping coolant. I tried to remove plastic panel on passenger side of lower console, I haven't been able to get it to release from fasteners holding it and I'm afraid I'm going to break it. It shows a pointed flat tool in the service manual but I don't know how you could use it. I thought about using stop leak, but I think that is a last resort. I have been waiting to drop MADMAX off at the Dealer but they are backed up for another week, I have been waiting for 10 days so far. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks :) Paul

When and Why your C-Max Grille Shutters Move
ptjones replied to plus 3 golfer's topic in General Discussion
It works now by removing the first zero in MATH. Now with the shutters closed it reads 0%. Paul -
Here is a used one that if it isn't over 5 yrs old should be fine.https://www.ebay.com/itm/ScanGauge-II-2-OBDII-Code-Reader-MPG-Fuel-Gauge-Performance-Monitor-/323532873872#viTabs_0 I can't believe how much ScanGaugeII has gone up, I paid $100 6 yrs ago. I think it is because you can buy them at Auto Parts stores and they need more markup. The other option is the other cheap EBDII units https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2053587.m570.l1311.R5.TR12.TRC2.A0.H2.XobdII.TRS0&_nkw=obd+ii+bluetooth&_sacat=0 Paul

It appears to be the same made in Taiwan, new one weighs about a pound less, because of all the road dirt, grease and oil stuff from 215k miles. Prices very a lot. Paul

You should be EV alot more than that, 30-40% EV check on your next trip. You might want to look at my Gas Mileage YouTube video again. :) I just made trip a week ago to Lexington, KY with the temps in the 40's, averaged 59.1 mph, 50% EV , 50.8 mpg Fuelly.com Paul

A ScanGaugeII or other OBDII gauge is useful in monitoring your SOC( state of charge) of the HVB( high voltage battery) I personally like Hybrid Vehicle Battery :) , but anyways you can watch your SOC and the useful range is 40-55% SOC actual on ScanGaugeII which is about the center third of the Smart Gauge. I would recommend you watch the video a few more times to get a better idea of what's going on the displays and ScanGaugeII. It just takes practice and eventually you will do it automatically with thinking. :) Paul

C-Max Gone; Ford replacement in the 219 Lineup?
ptjones replied to Telerisk's topic in Competing Products
They made it sound like they were coming out with FEE first, then FEH :headscratch: I think they will have them out next year. :) Paul -
WOW! That was a very big MPG hit. I wonder what temps the ICE was running at. :headscratch: Paul

How Many Miles did You get out of Your Michelin Energy Saver Tires
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Wheels & Tires
I think you make that up with better MPG's and mine have lasted forever too so they maybe actually cheaper in the long run. :) IMO Paul -
How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Yesterday I drove to Lexington, KY and back, 800 miles on I-85/I-285/I-75, all FWY with speeds 80-55 mph and averaging 59.2 mph. Temps were 40-50*F/ went 670.8 miles/13.2 gal and got 50.8 mpg, Fuelly.com actual mpg's. I got Premium from SAM's Club for $2.57/gal. This is another good example how well Grill Covers work. With a 20 to 30*F drop in temps from 70*F, you lose 4-6 mpg's in gas mileage. :) Paul
