  1. Wow, gone for a couple days, and there's like a million posts. I commute on the freeway average speed 65 to 70 on average for 20 miles each way. Every once in a while I take surface streets, but not too often. The other thing I'm sure is not working in my favor is my route changes between underpasses and overpasses as I drive, so it's very up & down. Maybe 42 is pretty good all things considering (and A/C), but I was really hoping closer to 45.
  2. What is your average speed when you get into the 70's? When I drive to work I can get 47 sometimes 50mpg. Going home I get 40. I think its because of elevation differences and the a/c is working harder (living in Phoenix and no covered parking at work :( )
  3. I'm not convinced by that. I started using Fry's (owned by Kroger) after having always used Chevron in the past. After about a year I noticed a change in performance of my Explorer, including stalls and hesitations. Bottle of Techron completely fixed the problem, and now I only use Top Tier. It is true that Shell and Kroger/Fry's share the points, but I don't believe the gas is the same.
  4. I highly doubt it as the MFT system is separate from the rest of the car. It can read some power train information, but not all (I don't think Miles to Empty is one of them), and it can't control any power train information. The display on the left of the speedometer is not controlled by the MFT system, only the right one. I still think it's a coincidence. The miles left calculation changes based on the past efficiency, consumption rate, and remaining fuel in the tank. Your gas is being consumed at an ever changing rate and the C-Max can only average this out to show you miles remaining. Otherwise the number would be jumping wildly. Remaining fuel in the tank is probably measured by a float, which in itself can't be that accurate due to the movement of the car and gas sloshing around. Also, when the C-Max says there are 0 miles remaining, it think there are more. Based on what others have said, IIRC, it's about a 30 mile reserve. Neither the pump nor the C-Max are perfectly accurate. Also, I would suggest setting the pump to it's slowest setting, that decreases the risk it shuts of prematurely.
  5. I'm not arguing for using "Premium" gas (i.e. a higher octane). I'm saying to each their own, but I personally only use Top Tier Gas for the detergents. I've said it before IMHO Premium (high octane) gas from a cheap brand is not as good as Regular (normal octane) from a Top Tier brand. I think it depends on the gas. As SnitGTS quoted, for Top Tier suppliers, Regular has to have at least the same as the Premium--already making the regular higher than EPA minimum standards. Premium may or may not have more. QT (http://www.quiktrip.com/Guaranteed-Gasoline) says they put the same amount of detergents in all grades of their gas as an example.
  6. If the MFT freezes up or detects some sort of fault, it will reboot with "performing scheduled maintenance" on the screen. I think it also reboots on a schedule as well. I believe this to be a coincidence and has nothing to do with running low on gas.
  7. Top Tier was started by several automotive companies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Tier_Detergent_Gasoline I have no idea who runs that exact website, but it has the list. Using cheap gasoline had put my life in danger with my Explorer. I'll only buy Top Tier from now on.
  8. The only addition is there is another fluid change to keep on top of--the inverter has coolant of the same type used for the Engine. The C-Max has no power steering fluid (like a lot of Ford vehicles) so depending on the car you are coming from i could be a wash.
  9. Premium or not, I believe Top Tier Gas (http://www.toptiergas.com/) is important.
  10. The 3rd printing of the owner's manual contains the updates: http://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage
  11. Because when you are sitting with the engine on you get 0 mpg: (0 miles / 1 Gallon). When are you moving with the engine on you get an actual value. For Fuelly, take a look at this: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1560-how-does-fuelly-show-up-on-everyones-posts/
  12. Thanks. I understand now. I opted for the adjustable one (doesn't have power), as I was tired of buying a new one every time I changed phones.
  13. I ordered "CMAX GO" in Arizona. I know others have used it, I stole it, I'm sorry :) Others I came up with if some wants: CMAX MPG CMAX RUN CMAX JET CMAX RED (Mine's Ruby Red) CMAX SLO I like the pun that CMAX translates to See Max
  14. Seems to me the best thing to do is take it to the dealer and see if there are any codes stored in the computer. Obviously it detected a fault in the power train system. I don't think it means there is reduced power, I think it means depending on the fault, there may be reduced power. From the manual:
  15. The settings get reset due to the update. You will need to turn EV+ mode back on.
  16. Well I haven't played with 3.5.1 really, but I just picked my car up and everything seems fine. I had a list of stuff I wanted them to do--a couple of trim items and TSB 12-12-6: "Liftgate does not close all the way" Dropped it off at 8:30, picked it up at 4:30, they didn't report any troubles installing anything.
  17. Hmm, I'd like to see a picture if you could. I just have a usb cord plugged into the console and hangs out in the groove between the console and the lid. Didn't use a power pack or anything.
  18. I'm assuming you've already ruled out the forward and rear sensing systems? Sometimes when I'm stopped at a light, the forward system will beep for no reason. I'm thinking it's a bug or something flying around in the front, I dunno.
  19. I'm curious as to your reasoning of going into accessory mode. IIRC, the Hybrid battery powers the accessories when in accessory mode and in normal operation. In either case, the hybrid battery will discharge. In normal mode, the ICE will turn on to recharge, in accessory mode, the system will shut down (i.e. battery saver). In either case, the use of energy in the battery has to be made up, decreasing FE.
  20. Yes, the sound in the video is normal and it is the A/C compressor. I can barely hear it with the windows up and the radio off thanks to the Active Noise Cancellation. It's a variable speed compressor, and after it's running for a while and gets things cool it quiets down a lot. Personally, it doesn't bother me at all.
  21. Remember they have to reprogram the PCM for the Sync Upgrade to be compatible.
  22. That should work. Say "Phone", she'll repeat, then say "What can I say" it should show the format on the screen.
