Going on a long trip on the expressway with a full load!
Adair replied to Recumpence's topic in Fuel Mileage
Be safe Matt! Hope it's warmer where you're going! -
Laurel, did you do the one upgrade you could download yourself from a thumb drive? 3.6.2, I think?

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Pony! I'm coming up on 1 year ownership of my C-Max, and at the risk of jinxing myself, I have not had the battery problem even once. The only problem I have had was concerning the SYNC/MFT system and is now resolved. I love my C-MAX and can't imagine driving another car now. Welcome to the family, and I'm sure you will love yours too!

Mine never worked, Laurel. Maybe it was *operator error*, but I could never get the sequence of commands right. What I thought should be intuitive *she* didn't recognize. Then it was do over, do over, do over until I was swearing at it. It became so frustrating that I just gave up. When we are going somewhere, I get the address entered before we leave the house, much as I would do with the Garmin. Then it works just fine, and the instructions and map are great! It's just the voice commands that have never worked well for me. I figured it was my Southern accent

Sorry to say I gave up on voice commands long ago. I just use the touch screen before leaving the driveway. The only things I can say, with any confidence that it will be recognized, is *Call.....(whoever)" change the radio station, and Weathermap! The good news is, once I get the address entered, the spoken directions and the map are wonderful!

BigAlpha, I *did* drive mine for a year before adding the gas pods. I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary next week.

I did exactly the same thing with my Jeep Liberty...........except that I was trying to get away from a bee in the car. :spend:   :censored:

Aw, come on you guys!! That's enough with the crumple bumpers now!!
-
HUH??? I was told it work exactly the opposite, so I've been hesitant to use the remote start, even tho morning temps are in the 20s some days.
-
Thank goodness YOU weren't hurt!! Things can be fixed easier than folks can!

I drive the exact same route to work 5 days a week. 17.3 miles of gently rolling back roads, 1 small town w/3 stop lights and a few stop signs. The trip home may add on 1 mile if I stop at the grocery. On Wednesday it was 21* in the morning and 32* on the way home. I used lights, bun warmers and defrost on the way in and just the bun warmers and lights on the way home. Got 41.1 MPGs for the round trip. On Thursday morning it was 27* in the morning and 39* on the way home. Lights, seat heaters on the way in. Just lights on the way home, got 43.2 MPG. Yesterday it was 37* on the way to work and 49* on the way home. Seat heaters on the way in, lights on the way home, got 47.2 MPG. Gas pods arrived yesterday. I'll put them on after the fill up today.

Have you called Ford about them? The Customer Care Hotline?
-
Well, I should just not let work get in the way of my Forum duties, that's pretty clear :lol2: I completely missed Paul's leap into first place in the 800+ club AND was late entering DavidWhitham' s jump and Cwannall entry into the 600+ mile club!!! Way to go guys!!! I'll try to not be late again! Post 1 is now updated!

Paul, do you take them off when the car goes in for service or leave them on? If on, have any Ford people made any comments? -
Suggested tips for cold weather driving?
Adair replied to ERPriest's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
No Laurel, I don't have snow tires......just what came with the car. I never felt the need for them last year. I suppose if we still lived in Duluth I'd reconsider, BUT, if we still lived in Duluth I'd be crazy, so it wouldn't matter. -
Suggested tips for cold weather driving?
Adair replied to ERPriest's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Hi ERPriest, I live in Michigan, near Ann Arbor, and we had our first (light) snowfall yesterday and our first 20* morning today. I drive 17.3 miles to work each day at 7:30 am over back roads, thru 1 small town w/ 3-4 stopsigns and 2 lights along the way. When I leave in the morning I use the bun warmers until the engine is warmed up. I only turn the defrost on at this point if I can't see out the windows. As soon as the engine warmed to about 1 bar (on the My View screen) I turn on either the defrost or the upper fan, set on 73* and about 3 bars of fan blowing. (My tolerance for cold has diminished this year ) By this time I can get into EV for short periods, but once the engine is fully warm, EV is a little more available. (There were a couple of trips last winter when the temps were near 0* that I couldn't get into EV at all.....but that was right after I got my C-MAX.) Until today, with the temps in the 30s, I was able to get about 44.5 mpg average for the round-trip....with the return being at 5pm, warmer, and I always get better mpgs on the return, because it's more downhill. We'll see what today brings. I don't know what the temps are out now. I have ordered gas pods from Aerohance in hopes that they will help me get better MPGs this winter than I did last. Regardless of the miles, I love my C-MAX. I got great MPGs over the summer. As for winter driving, we had several snows last year, and I never felt *unsafe* driving my car.....and I came from a Jeep Liberty to the C-MAX. Good luck, and keep us posted on how it's going. I'm sure others will chime in here with more information. -
Locked.....duplicate post :)
-
Well congratulations kc1174!!! So nice to see our numbers continue to climb! Do you feel the gas pods gave you the edge you needed? (I just ordered mine.) I will update Post 1 right away. Stick around, I predict you'll see even higher numbers.

Awwwww Jus, you're the BEST at answering the detailed, complicated question! Much better than l'il ole me. Seriously Ryan......................ask any of us! We span all US time zones............there's almost always someone on.
-
Ok, you guys have convinced me!! I signed up for the test crew and ordered my black gas pods!! It's not even winter yet and my FE is slowly tanking! Down from a high of 49mpg on my same daily route to 44.9 right now. I know, I know.....that's still great, and within the new ratings, but now that I've seen what's possible, I'm willing to take a gamble on these thingies, based on the success of mtb, Jus, and now catsailor! Besides, it's 44* here now and it's gonna get much, much colder as the days go on. Thank you all for sharing your information! I'll do the same.
-
Congrats and welcome Ryan!!! Great color choice, I might add  What option package did you get, if I may ask? You should be able to read thru many of the important posts on the forum and be ready to hit the ground running (in EV mode, of course) when your new ride arrives. Please ask any question you don't find the answer to. Sometimes the search feature leaves a lot to be desired. This is a great group of people with tons of knowledge who are excited to help new C-MAX drivers get the most from their cars.

I think most first time hybrid owners will struggle until they find a *coach, mentor* to help them learn the ropes. When I bought mine last year, the salesman said, *The car will teach you how to drive.* Which is true, but you still have to learn how to understand what it's teaching and how to implement the lessons to the best effect. Then the learning speeds up and the mpgs go up. But that learning time brings the overall average down.
