about how far from home does it kick in?
-
mtb, time to change dealers. find your dealer and check their rating here: dealerrater.com/rateus or at yelp.com
-
johnnyo -you might look at getting an engine block heater for your c-max for the cold winter months. you can warm the engine in your garage overnight so that when you start it in the morning it won't take forever to warm up when driving around town. since the hybrid wants to use the battery mode more often the engine doesn't warm up very fast hence the low mpg since the engine has to kick in and engines and batteries don't like very cold weather at all. hybrids do much better in warm weather like 65-75 deg F like we have here in So. California. Also the EPA tests are all based on that temp range for the mpg ratings.

dml, welcome be sure to sign up at fuelly.com to keep track of your mpgs each fill up. also there is a thread about an upcoming Michigan users/owners National Gathering soon so check that out: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1090-c-max-national-gathering-michigan-2013/ there are several tips and tricks here to help you get better gas mileage so be sure to check some of those forums out. using the best left screen on your dash display can really make a difference. yes could weather really seems to be a bad thing for the C-max. best of luck with your new car.

plus 3, no i have never driven a Diesel. old ones were noisy. i know the new clean diesels are much better. i didn't get the TDI diesel when i got my Passat because diesel does cost more here in the USA and California, and i don't drive enough hwy miles (more than 50 miles in one trip) to justify the extra $3-4k cost difference in the car to make up that in mpg fuel savings to make it worth it for me.i do wish they offered a hybrid Passat, not just the Jetta but most likely the size/weight of the car makes it hard to get good mpgs in the Passat. i have nothing against the cmax and we plan to get one for my wife, hence why I'm on these forums to learn. just was wondering your normal driving habit to see why your mpgs are down. it's obvious over 65 mph and the mpgs really suffer since cmax was designed for city streets and back roads 35-45 mph.

Zymol is a bit more $ but supposedly the best as is doesnt leave residues.all the pros swear by it. leather needs to be able to breath and not dry out so heat and sun is the enemy. http://www.zymol.com/zymolsprayleathercleaner8oz.aspx http://www.amazon.com/Zymol-Z-507-Leather-Cleaner-Conditioner/dp/B000F7VKD4/ref=pd_sim_auto_3

plus 3, how many miles do you drive each day / way? if you do mostly highways driving a Diesel is the best choice for best mpgs gas car for middle range driving for both city and hwy a hybrid for more city but some hwy and a plug in electric for mainly (>85%) city driving

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html check out toptiergas.com for a list of retailers who have the best gas (additives to keep your gas tank and injectors cleaner) and most likely you would have less problems with pumps at these stations as well. of course so many of these gas stations are owned by individuals and they cut corners and don't do squat to fix problems if it will cost them $1. they don't care if they p1$$ off their customers. "customer service...what's that?" !!! ;)

since this is related to the EPA testing methods which is in question due to the low actual C-max mpg numbers, here is a good article based on this topic: http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/1303_fuel_economy_numbers_gone_wild/

regarding EPA testing ... i posted this in another thread here but it probably makes more sense here: http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/1303_fuel_economy_numbers_gone_wild/

good info bymaine. the warped pcm box is something new/not previously reported here before.

so if i have both memberships i can ask them for a quote from both??? in my experience buying my last car, you register online with the program you choose and then the program approved dealer calls you back to setup an appt to come in and do the deal. so no way you could just walk in to any dealer and and just ask for for the AAA/Costco pricing if they aren't in the program, and usually there is only one program dealer in every 50 or so miles.

in another thread they stated if you turn on and off your car at your home location 11 times it will learn it sooner for EV+

great article on how the epa tests cars and how they come up with their numbers: http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/1303_fuel_economy_numbers_gone_wild/ from the March 2013 issue of Automobilemag.com

great write up Jus. wish more would post their impressions and thoughts on the event. i wonder how many in total they had come to the event. and i wonder how many forum members were there. any questions you forgot to ask? did they warn you not to take pix or ask any specific questions?
-
cool event. wish more owners who attended this would post their review of the day. hope they improve the car based on your inputs.good to see Ford do this. it is a brand new car so it's a must they get it right to ensure they keep getting more new owners after the first year. you all should have met to chat after the event but it seems with the different times that wasnt possible.

Tips for Renewing Sirius Radio Subcription
salsaguy replied to Laurel's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
don't have a C-Max yet but my Sirius xm ended a while ago. while unsubscribed it would many times just turn back on and give me a week or so of free channels without me calling our doing anything. I'm sure they do this to tease you to want it again. they probably track to see how many folks try to see if it still works or not. just recently got a mailing that they had a free week of programming over the memorial day holiday and then an offer to renew for 6 months for only $25. i signed up of course. no traffic of travel link though. when my 6 months are up i will try some of the tricks to see what i can get. i listen to about 6-7 channels. cnn, watercoolers, bpm, boneyard, fox news, comedy radio. it's not worth $120 a year for sure but it's nice to have something else to listen to. i have hd radio in my passat, a CD player as well as my 32gb sd card so it's not like i don't have choices. -
Free initial maintenance for C-max and costs after.
salsaguy replied to salsaguy's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
arthur you must have negotiated with the dealer for that -
edsel - what you can do is teach your car the light/major intersection near your home as your home location instead of your actual home address. surely you know the way home from there right? :) it's also safer in case your car is stolen or you give your keys to a parking attendant so they don't look up your address to break into your house. this way they only get to an intersection near your home not your actual home.

its most likely a bad pump. try a different one or anything the nozzle differently.some non major brands gas stations may not maintain their pumps as much as they should and not as often as the big 5 (Exxon, Mobil, Shell, Chevron, 76)

I'm sure most car mfgs use a more optimistic mpg value on the dash as they figure most folks are too lazy or too high tech to be hand calculating (checking) the numbers, and want the owners to think they are getting better mpg than they actually are. if they don't hand check they will never know. Also im sure there is a limit to how far off they are allowed to be off. i think 5% may be within the allowable limit but only they know. Also if you are using fast fill pump method to fill your tank you are creating turbulent flow in the tank which can take a while for the gas level (sensor) to settle down so it may click off too soon/or too late to be accurate. best method is to fast pump for the first 85% of the fill uo then slow fill the last bit (to let it settle down) till it clicks off and DON'T top off. I'm sure your numbers will be better / more accurate and more consistent that way. less variation is always better. this is why c fuelly.con numbers are all over the place. method of fill has a lot to do with it and what you're calculated mpg will be. and I'm wondering how many fuelly members use the dash info instead of the hand calculated info to get their avg mpg numbers

I'm still here and still waiting to purchase one. still haven't had a test drive yet just sat in one. The rentals may only be available at the airports which doesn't help my cause to try a 3-4 day test drive as im not willing to drive that far from home to test one. when we (wife and i) get closer to being able to purchase one we will try again with rent options in our area.

sounds like a great start for you and your new car metroman. keep it up and report back here on the forums with your findings of tools/tricks and likes/dislikes.
