Mileage and Build date for eCVT that have failed
Bill-N replied to Automate's topic in eCVT / Transmission
I had two problems caused by transmission replacement, both of which required the car being towed (and are documented elsewhere in the forums). First issue was the shift cable became detached. Second issue was the car becoming comatose after parking; it would neither turn on nor turn off! Both problems showed up within a couple of months following replacement and were promptly fixed. This was two years ago. New transmission has performed perfectly since then. So yes, there's cause for concern following major surgery, but nothing that can't be handled. Cheers. -
Per my owners manual, 3rd printing (emphasis mine): The [110V] power point is not designed for electric devices such as:• Motor loads, such as vacuum cleaners, electric saws and other electricpower tools, compressor-driven refrigerators, etc.....

You can read Ford's press release here: https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/01/26/ford-issues-one-safety-recall-and-one-safety-compliance-recall-i.html. Note that a total of 17 vehicles are involved. Hope this helps. PS: Recall number is 17S03. Google it.

Meaning the part was defective or the installation?

Look here http://www.etis.ford.com for details about your car. Look under "Minor Features". Note the site confuses Energi vs non-Energi vehicles. There are, indeed, different FOB's. Your owners manual is the place to start. Just as a for-instance, my 2013 SEL without remote start has the three-button "Type 1" FOB. Cheers.

"... after I got home.....about 5 or 10 mins after turning off the Car I heard what sounded like a fan." This may well have been the evap test pump. There's discussion of this elsewhere in the forums. Cheers.

Where to find Optional Features Listing for 2013 C-Maxes?
Bill-N replied to SPL Tech's topic in General Discussion
It's been more than just a couple of vehicles that have had transmissions replaced. However, it's been done under warranty (8 yrs, 100k) so just make sure the warranty transfers to you. FYI, the failures have typically occurred in the 30-50k mile range. Good luck. -
Ford web sites do indeed work best with Internet Explorer

This is from my local dealers web site.

Not that I notice. I use insulation made for 1/2" pipe. The insulation straddles the horizontal bars and is notched around the vertical pieces. It stays in place by itself snuggly enough that the car wash has no effect.

Brake Rottors strange wear pattern
Bill-N replied to David Toth's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
Yep. And the real surprise came when going forward and the brakes engaged much sooner! -
On my 2013 SEL, turning off the car works as expected whether or not the brake is pressed.

FWIW, I received the recall notice in today's mail. This is the we'll-let-you-know-"when parts are available" notice.

Replacing Headlight Bulbs
Bill-N replied to MikeB's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
Excellent video and source of how-to info. Thanks for posting the link. -
Super pictures; thanks for posting them. To me, this is absolutely a safety issue. The NTSB needs to be informed.

I agree with first replacing the battery. As Paul says, it's about at the end of it's life anyway. If that fixes the problem, then nothing more need be done. If not, then have the diagnostics done.

Replacing Headlight Bulbs

It's not too late :-) -
It's my understanding that the HVB works best at about 70 degrees F. If this is true, then, especially in colder climates, the engine will start in the morning just to warm up the HVB. EV+ thus makes sense to me. If the engine is going to start anyway, why not use some of the HVB before hand and later use the running engine to both warm up and recharge the battery.

Mileage and Build date for eCVT that have failed
Bill-N replied to Automate's topic in eCVT / Transmission
Indeed. I'd describe the sound the scroll compressor makes as a clatter. There is/was a link to a you tube video that had the loud sound recorded; useful for comparison. In my case, the transmission sound was like that of a rolling tin can with gravel in it. It wasn't particularly loud, but was obvious when the car was moving slowly (walking speed) with the engine off. -

A 1-2mph collision causes $5,000+ damage
Bill-N replied to DaveofDurham's topic in Body Panels, Trim, etc.
I had a similar incident a week ago; rolled into the rear of a Nissan (Rogue I think). Zero damage to either vehicle, but no hitch involved. -
Access to GPS data in non-nav 2013 C-Max SEL?
Bill-N replied to ion's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
"Where am I" shows longitude and latitude (Home -> compass -> Where am I). It used to show altitude, but no longer does; perhaps a casualty of SYNC 3.8 update. -
Been there, done that. And didn't have the pedal-to-the-metal.
