  1. Look here: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/forum/19-cargo-hauling-roof-racks-towing/
  2. It's TSB 14-0073. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/4804-tsb-14-0073-air-conditioning-ac-compressor-noise-heard-inside-the-vehicle-cabin/?hl=14-0073
  3. It may or may not be relevant, but I hear a slight engine-knock sound under light load. I drove another C-Max and it made the same sound so I believe what I'm hearing is normal. Since Atkinson-cycle engines have high compression ratios (compared to "regular" engines) they tend to make a diesel-like noise under load. That's my theory.
  4. This today from OASIS: Jun 12 2015 6604-Announcing Emission Recall 15E03 Emission Recall 15E03: Certain 2013 Model Year C-Max Hybrid and Energi, Fusion Hybrid and Energi, and MKZ Hybrid Vehicles - Powertrain Control Module Reprogramming. Please see FMCDealer.com for more details. Etis shows this recall for my C-Max.
  5. The original hybrid warranty still applies, i.e. 8 years or 100k (150k in CARB states apparently). So you should still have 5+ years left from the original warranty. I hope you have no more trouble. Since my transmission was replaced I've had (1) a dead battery, (2) wouldn't shift out of park, and the latest (3) a bizarre situation where the car would neither start nor stop (shut-off). I just picked it up yesterday and I suspect it's still not right as my volt-meter now shows 13+ volts when charging vs 14+ pre-transmission-replacement. (Sigh)
  6. This from OASIS today: Jun 10 2015 6592-2013-2015 C-MAX, MKZ/Fusion Hybrid With 2.0L ATK Or 2.5L engine – DTC P0340 And/Or P0344 - Cam Position Sensor Some 2013-2015 C-MAX, MKZ/Fusion Hybrid vehicles equipped with 2.0L ATK or 2.5L engines may exhibit a MIL with DTC P0340 and/or P0344. Prior to normal diagnosis, check the date code of the camshaft position sensor. If the sensor build date is on or before 2/5/2015, replace the sensor. Refer to WSM, Section 313-14. Older service parts could result in the vehicle returning with the same DTCs. The date code is a 4 digit code located on the side of the sensor when holding it with the electrical connector at the 3:00 position. The first two digits of the build date are the day in the month (e.g., 1-31). The third digit is the month (e.g., 1-9 = Jan-Sept, O=Oct, N=Nov, D=Dec). The last digit is the year (e.g., 3=2013, 4=2014). For example, Dec 13, 2013 = 13D3, and Jan 1, 2014 = 0114. Use applicable 12650D60 labor op from Section 10 of SLTS.
  7. Please tell me it's more than that! Back then to my original question: how does one find a dealer with a hybrid-qualified mechanic?
  8. Can our Ford reps confirm or deny or clarify this please? AdThanksvance
  9. Thanks for the tip. Come to find out my local dealer is an "Electric Certified Dealer." I wonder what that really means.
  10. You can access, for a fee, workshop manuals at motorcraftservice.com.
  11. I haven't tested this theory, but you may have to press OK for the MyView setting to be remembered.
  12. Is there such a thing as a Ford certified C-Max technician? Or perhaps a Ford certified hybrid electric vehicle technician? If so, how would one find out which dealers employ them? My local dealer does their best, but I'm beginning to think their best isn't sufficient (third incident since January's transmission replacement).
  13. You're correct. Reverse is powered only by electricity. Whether or not the engine is running has no bearing (other than to recharge the HV battery, of course).
  14. My dealer is being told that this TSB applies to my SEL (problem posted elsewhere) so apparently the TSB is not necessarily Energi specific. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TSB 15-0089ENERGI – DISCHARGED 12 VOLT BATTERY FORD: 2013-2014 C-MAX This article supersedes TSB 14-0155 to update the vehicle model lines and Service Procedure. ISSUE: Some 2013-2014 C-MAX Energi vehicles may exhibit a concern with a discharged 12 volt battery. ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE Disconnect the 12 volt battery. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-01.Connect the Rotunda Midtronics GR1-190 or GRX-3590 Diagnostic Battery Charger to the vehicle’s battery terminal posts only. Battery cables must be removed and no other connections, such as body ground, can be in the circuit during testing. Select diagnostic fast charge. On GR1-190 only - select above 400 km (250 miles) or below 400 km (250 miles) based on vehicle mileage. Select battery type Lead Acid. Enter cold cranking amp (CCA) rating of 390 CCA. Did the battery pass the load test? Yes - allow battery to fully charge. After charging is complete, reconnect the 12 volt battery. Refer to WSM, Section 414-01. Proceed to Step 4. No - record the failure code. Replace the battery. Refer to WSM, Section 414-01. Make sure the 12 volt battery is fully charged. Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool, perform the battery monitoring system (BMS). Reset after the new battery is connected. Proceed to Step 4. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM), DC/DC converter (DCDC), instrument panel cluster (IPC), gateway module (GWM) and if equipped with the 4.2-inch display, the front control / display interface module (FCDIM) using IDS release 91.05 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to guarantee you will receive the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com. Inspect vehicle communication module (VCM) and cables for any damage. Make sure scan tool connections are not interrupted during programming. Connect the VCM to the vehicle’s primary data link connector. Do not connect the VCM to the GWM data link connector (DLC). Turn off all accessories (radio, heated/cooled seats, headlamps, interior lamps, HVAC system) and close doors. Disconnect or depower any aftermarket accessories. Disable IDS scan tool sleep mode, screen saver and hibernation modes. Create all IDS sessions key on engine off (KOEO). Starting the vehicle before creating a session will cause errors within the programming inhale process. Connect a battery charger to the 12 volt battery. Was the vehicle built on or before 9/12/2013? Yes - replace the telematics control unit (TCU) module. Refer to WSM, Section 415-00. Proceed to Step 6. No - proceed to Step 6. Was the vehicle built on or before 6/3/2013? Yes - proceed to Step 7. No - proceed to Step 8. Inspect the wiring for damage or chafing in the rear liftgate area, driver door connector wire harness C339, and front passenger door connector wire harness C340 (Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4). Is damage or chafing present? Figure 1 - 15-0089 Figure 2 - 15-0089 Figure 3 - 15-0089 Figure 4 - 15-0089 Yes - repair the circuits as needed. Refer to Wiring Diagram (WD), Section 5-1. After repair, wrap the affected area with 3M™ Temflex™ Cotton Friction Tape or equivalent to prevent future concerns. Proceed to Step 8. 15. C-Max is back in the shop :-( I've attached two pictures of the dashboard. The first shows the "Starting System Fault" message. The second picture shows the dash after pressing OK and illustrates the bizarre nature of the various systems, viz.:Service engine soon light on Low tire pressure warning light onEngine coolant overheat light onLow oil pressure light onAnti-lock brake system malfunction light onParking brake light on (parking brake was not engaged)High voltage battery shows emptyAvg MPG shows "--.-"No vehicle mileage shownRight-hand display shows "--" as the outside air temperature The car was definitely not "started". But it would not shut off, nor would it start. It's as if the computers thought the car was started when it really wasn't. All attempts the start the car resulted in the "Starting System Failure" message. Note also, the 12V battery was working fine. As I recall, the center console (aka radio) display, while on, was unremarkable. The dashboard display and center console continued to work for some 4 hours before systems finally stopped working. I saw, for example, the radio shut itself off to save the battery.
  16. CSP 15B04.pdf posted in maintenance forum.
  17. Here's the CSP from the Fusion Hybrid forum: CSP 15B04.pdf Also on the Fusion forum there's a post indicating an equivalent letter has been sent to US dealers.
  18. (Original post edited my me.) The 12V battery is charged by the high-voltage battery; the high-voltage battery is charged by the engine and/or plug-in.
  19. From OASIS, Mar. 2nd: SSM 44961 - 2011-2015 Various Vehicles - Global Positioning Satellite Module (GPSM) - Inaccurate Location Or Offset Displayed After Seasonal Tire Change Some 2011-2015 Vehicles with MFT or MLT and Navigation may display incorrect vehicle position after installing seasonal tires. These inaccuracies will correct/recalibrate over time if tires are within the recommended size. Use Owners Guide to verify proper size, load index, and speed rating. If the tires are not the correct specification for the vehicle, do not perform a repair attempt. If proper tires are installed and the concern persists refer to Work Shop Manual, Section 415-00 for diagnosis by DTC or symptom. Note: Removing GPSM power for 2 minutes will clear GPSM calibration and greatly reduce the time it takes for the system to correct/recalibrate. The system will typically recalibrate within 20 minutes of driving around 40 MPH with a clear view of the sky and a turn performed every few miles with the GPSM power restored.
  20. From OASIS, Feb. 16: SSM 44931 - Vehicle Health Report Inoperative with Aftermarket Device Plugged Into Data Link ConnectorSome 2008-2015 Ford/Mercury/Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC may exhibit a message indicating Vehicle Needs 200 Miles on it to perform a Vehicle Health Report (VHR). If this message is displayed, inspect for an aftermarket device that is plugged into the Data Link Connector (DLC). Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 418-00 Module Communications Network, Description and Operation. If an aftermarket device is found, do not perform a repair or attempt a module update as the device must be removed from the DLC for SYNC VHR to operate properly. After removing an aftermarket device, cycle the ignition key once and perform a short drive to update the odometer reading. If the SYNC VHR is still not operating properly, refer to the WSM, Section 415-00 Information and Entertainment System for diagnosis by DTC or symptom.
